I appreciate your reply to this thread, but the original thread asked why the hate towards them. Unless I missed something you didn't give a reason.

I had KOs on my 2010, and they looked awesome and very boy-racer with the white letters out. They performed fine with mild off road driving, and in the Sierra snow and SoCal rain I was confident.

But man, they were HEAAAVYYYY. They immediately killed my mpgs. And I could never really get over it. When it came time for new tires for my current truck, I looked at the KO2s, but for the price and weight, it didn't seem like a good value. Plus I just don't like the look of the KO2 over the KO...too aggro for me. I prefer the older tire's classic look and tread pattern and sidewall.

I switched over to Cooper AT3s and a couple sets later I've never looked back. Quieter, lighter, less purchase cost, and have done all the same stuff and more than those BFGs ever did with the same reliability. Just a more modern tire in my experience.

For you guys talking about weight, I assume you run a C rated tire? I run E rated. I don't care about weight or MPG. I drove a TJ for 9yrs, so I'm not really a "comfort" kind of guy either  I've never said BFG was the end-all be-all tire, just that I have had no problems with mine.

This is the "wheeling" I do. GA Traverse

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
FWIW, when I got my first set of tires to replace the stock allseasons, I was gonna go with KO2 because I've had awesome experience with them in the past.
The tire shop dude talked me into Gen Grabber A/Ts instead. They look incredibly similar in tread pattern and were $300 cheaper for the set, even the e-loads (yeah they're a little stiff for my stock ACLB but I wanted extra hardiness for the gnarly frost heaves/road canyons we get in the winter)

Overall they've performed excellently for the past 30k miles I've had em on. Sightly particular to balance, but ride great and reasonably quiet on the interstate. I will admit they don't really like the SUPER wet slushy snow and I haven't bogged em through significant mud yet. but otherwise whenever it's in 4wd, the beast just goes wherever I point the wheels. never once lost traction in the rain either, where it wasn't my own doing anyway.

Mine were E rated, on a single cab 4x4, so they made the ride rough and exacerbated the slow acceleration. Those suckers outlived the truck though, haha.

It was a fine tire, if you don't mind the mpg penalty or higher cost of entry. I wanted more comfort and versatility - there's nothing wrong with the BFGs, I think people are trying to say, it's perfectly fine...but there are more modern designed options.

It's hard to describe until you switch, I guess. That was my experience with Coopers.

To add, they always seem to come up as the "go-to" tire for off roading when people ask "what's the best A/T tire," and again, while fine, I think there are better options now compared to 15, even 10 years ago when they truly were the best option.

And I have no problem switching. I guess I just knew how the BFG's were and stuck with them. I'm going either 255/75(I know I'll have to go C rated there) or a 255/80(will go E rated there). My main "must have" is a good tread life.

Can't speak for the KO2s, but the KOs did wear really slowly. They were on track to expire from age rather than wear. Again probably because they were overkill E-Loads on such a light truck. Something to be said for that.

I would much rather have an E rated tire. My truck has a lot of added weight. I don't particularly care about MPG's or comfort. Honestly, my Tacoma rides like a Cadillac compared to the TJ. I will definitely check out the Cooper's after the lift is put on and I see what size tire I need.

I doubt anyone was actually offended by this statement. But, when you say:

    And follow it up with:

It makes people wonder how you would know.

At what PSI? I know people will run ridiculously low pressure in sand dunes. I took mine on the beach plenty of times without issues.

I never experienced this. I was actually pretty happy with mine.

This is believable. However, anything but a dedicated mud tire tends to be worthless in deep mud.

I've heard this a few times. Which is weird, since I had no signs of wear with regular trips through gravel and rock roads.

It's funny how polarized people are about these tires. Either they seem to love them, or hate them. Most people I know who have them seem to be happy with them. I liked mine for mixed on and off-road use. I don't think they're the best tires available. But, they're definitely not the worst either. They got me everywhere I wanted to go, and showed almost no wear after 29K miles.

I say buy them if you like them. Don't buy them if you don't.

Yep I’m deeply offended champ:rolleyes:. Thanks for the solid input with your pavement princess, that you don’t happen to even use off road, while you complain about the truck’s and tires’ off road capabilities. And your vast experience in your buddies truck. I’m sure there’s no chance he gets buried in the sand cause he’s too heavy on throttle.. Maybe actually use your own truck with aforementioned tires off road for a bit and form your own opinion of both.

KO2's are some of the best tires I've had on my truck - took them on numerous trips. They rarely let me down. Of course you see a lot of complaints about road performance, which is a bit laughable. They're one of the more aggressive AT's out there.

This thread is painful to read.

For someone who doesn't call themselves a rock crawler, you sure post a lot of pictures of yourself offroad. I'm sorry, but if you've done TOTW anytime in the past few years, then you're a rock crawler. :)

I did TOTW, Hell's Revenge, Chicken's Corner, Scahfer's Switchbacks, etc back in Sept of 2019 on stock suspension, full skids, sliders, and 255/70/17 BFG's. I still wouldn't really consider myself a crawler. I just like to camp off the beaten path :D When I hear "rock crawler", I think 35's, extensive suspension, winch, etc  Maybe I'm still stuck in the mindset of my TJ days.
I guess I consider myself more of an "overlander" even though I hate that word

Which is exactly why your opinion about off-road performance is meaningless. If you don't have personal experience with it, then how could you actually know?

I've had 6 sets of BFG A/Ts on 4 different trucks over a 20 year span. (Dodge Ram, 1rst Gen Taco x2 sets, FJ Cruiser, 2nd Gen Taco) The current set on my 2nd Gen is the only KO2s, all others were the original KOs. Every set has given great mileage, balanced very well, ridden well, and not a lot of road noise. I don't do a lot of hard offroading, mostly FS roads and beach driving. I live a couple hours from the Outer Banks of NC and go out there quite a bit, I usually air down to about 18psi on the beach. These tires have always done very well in all the situations I put them in. We get very little snow here, but they have always gotten me where I need to go. My current set has 36,000 miles on them. They were balanced when they were first installed and haven't been balanced since. I rotate every 5,000 miles and check tire pressures about once a month. I have no complaints, and no reason not to keep buying them.

Shoulda had mommy buy you a 4x4 instead I guess... How about not adding your opinion to a subject you have no personal experience in?

ps I took the little 2wd Nissan pick up i had when I was your age all the hell over the place off-roading, so 2wd isn’t exactly an excuse for not going off road.
