Why so much hate for BFG A/T?

I put 65000 miles on my c rated 265/70 17 bfg KO2's before I replaced them and they still had about 10000 miles if treat left in them. They have never failed me both on or offroad. I just upgraded to 285 bfg's now. Sure @Grampz1962 , they can be a little more expensive then other tires, but do they live up to for what you may need them for.....sure. I have found that tires are like handguns. Everyone has their favorite for their intended purposes and you just need to see if they are right for you and not listen to others that might have another intended purpose.

I think a lot of the hate of these is the cost. Followed by X tires are great and cheaper. People like cheap and often conflate the idea of money saved with quality. This is my 3rd set of KOs (KO2 this time) and I will be getting them again. Great off road where I’ve taken them, great in all the weather conditions I’ve used them in. Sure they get a bit louder as they wear. I suspect all tires have some of that.

These have worked amazingly for me.

    Like, so many.
I think most people acknowledge that the KO2s are fine tires. They certainly look great. I just think you can get equally good tires (or better) for less money.

They had 65k miles and you’re telling me they’re still good for another 10k miles???

I can already tell, you don’t know anything about tires... On my truck I’ve already had stock wranglers > KO2 > Wildpeaks > Stt pros > ridge grapplers. Take my advice or leave it, but KO2s are garbage.

Im confused... he knows nothing about tires because they can’t possibly last to 70k? o_O

My KO2s have 74k miles with lots of dirt/gravel/proper off-roading with plenty of tread left still.

I had them on mine for 29K and only went through 20% of their tread. At that rate, I would have had more than 50% of my tread left after 65K.

Since you know so much about tires, I'm surprised that you didn't experience exceptional treadwear with your KO2's as well. I assume you rotate every 5K?

    I believe I'll leave it.

Buddy has a pair, really hates them in the snow and dislikes them in the wet. I've never been a fan myself.

Put them on at 34,000, just changed them with 106,000. They had 1/4" of tread still left on them and at least 3/16" before the tabs in between are touching. It is great that you have a lot of experience with multiple tires but unless you have seen my tires for yourself, your opinion on my tires is moot.

I had mine on for about 35K, they def still had thread but most definitely weren’t performing like they were when new. Very poor wet condition performance mostly at that point.

I personally wouldn’t run tires over 50k miles (even on a passenger car), doesn’t matter what the thread looks like. I’ll admit I’m very critical of tires. They’re your point on contact with the road, so I’m going to have them high on my priority list.

I’m glad that y’all like them and the marketing they’ve done is definitely working, but for me, there’s much better options out there.

I hope y’all have tried other tires, bc if KO2 is all you know, then you really don’t know much. Try other brands, be a little bit more opened minded

For your situation, the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 XLT would be a good fit. Aggressive looking sidewall, milder 5 rib tread patch, great all around handling, and long life. The Falken Wildpeak AT3W would be another great choice if you are wanting something overall more aggressive, but you will notice a bit more road noise and maybe a tiny bit less tread life. While I don't have any experience with them, the Firestone Destination XT looks like a solid performer.

I'm with you there, to an extent. For off-roading, I'll probably replace tires at about 50% tread.

I have run a few other brands. I honestly had been consistently impressed with my KO2's. They're not perfect in every category, but they did most things well, and some things excellent. I have Toyo AT3's now, and am loving them as well. A little noisy at highway speed, but that's me being picky as well. I only changed tires because I was changing size. The AT3 had just come out, so I wanted to give them a shot.

I suppose not everyone being critical of road noise has a roof rack... Front runner rack, pelican case, maxtrax, shovel, and awning... I can’t even tell I’ve got tires

I find it amusing that the folks who really seem to hate these tires tend to blame their success on marketing. I've never seen a commercial or noticed any kind of ad for them.

I heard of them on this forum, about 3 years ago. Back then, they were very popular. Now that the market has gotten more competitive, some people act as if they were never good tires. Maybe the market has caught up to them, but they still get the job done.

I also wonder if the people who complain about wet and snow traction are expecting a bit too much out of an aggressive AT. Of course they won't be as good as all seasons in the rain. Of course real snow tires will kick their ass in the snow. From what I've seen, people in trucks are generally the most reckless drivers in rain and snow(not that there aren't plenty of dopes in every other type of vehicle as well). Maybe those are the types who are bitching.

I'm not trying to accuse anyone of being a shitty driver. I just tend to slow down for the conditions, and never had any issues with these.

I'm not sure how people are getting 60 - 70k miles out of the BFG's. I've never had a set last more than 35k. I've killed them in as little as 15k before.

Could be a number if factors. I was just reading on the 4runner forum if a guy in Hawaii who says he gets 35K out of them, while other tires don't even make it that long. I've mostly heard of them lasting longer than other AT's.

I've heard that as well, but it hasn't been my experience. I've been seeing about 15-30% longer life from other brands including Cooper, Falken, and...as much as I hate them...Duratracs.

Weird. I guess there's always little variables that make people's experience different with any product. I have had situations where I didn't care for popular products as well.

These tires are the worst in wet conditions, there are much better tires out there. I think performance and ratings are much more important than the look of the tire.
