It's not really small. And it's not even midsize, 'cause that would mean there are market choices that are smaller, right? The truck very close to being equal in size to the full size of 10 years ago. Bloat, as all vehicles that have a long life cycle seem to do.

Anyway, review the specs. Analyze how you know you will use the vehicle. Does it meet your requirements on paper?

If so, test drive several models and see if the fit and equipment and electronic gee wizardry meet your standards and your butt. Some folks die over drum rear brakes and no power seat. Others, not so much.

    Happy shopping.

Cause I live in Hawaii and Tacomas are like refrigerators here, every house has to have at least 1 or even 2. I didn't want to disgrace my family name either. It's a tradition for every male to own at least 1 Tacoma in their life

Why? Because WTF else would you buy? Tacoma is in a league of its own when it comes to midsize trucks. Not perfect but nothing else came even close when making my decision to buy one

Well, you need to tell everyone what you want!

You mentioned a few things but if you are looking at the "RAPTOR" and other vehicles, then to be honest, you are not looking at a Tacoma.

I inherited a Ram 2500 4x4 Humunguscab. Already a Tacoma guy so it was a pretty easy decision to sell the giant diesel and pay the difference on my GTI trade to have the new Tacoma I wanted. Plus the Taco fits in the garage.

I came from Golf R's, Audi S4's, etc then I got into a 14 SRT Cherokee. The beast alone in it was sports car enough for me but I started getting used to the space in which I can store things, camp easier, etc. Got more needy over time, speed wasn't important as much anymore and wanted a bed for use with my fishing gear and 10' bass boat that I could simply load in the bed (something I couldn't do with the SRT). Chose the Toyota because of the obvious (maintenance, stability, blah blah). TRD Pro was an easy choice based on my car path.

Simply test drive your "Vehicle"....Period Dot!

If you do not like it then MOVE ON......

Coming from a Porsche/Jeep family ...... the Taco is GREAT for what you want it to do.

Small Truck.....I would think this is your best bet.

I've got a thing for English bulldogs. I think they are cool as hell. I was shopping for midsize because the trails around us can run narrow. I saw the new tacomas, and looking at them on an oblique, the stance and the squat ugly mug, made me think of an English bulldog. Sold. That's all.

This. If I could afford a Raptor, I probably wouldn't have got the Tacoma.

I always wanted a Tacoma but couldn't justify the purchase until we got a dog, and now that he is 60lb and growing, wife no longer wants him in her brand new luxury SUV. Secondary pluses (for me), ability to take it to the mountains (biking, skiing). Big enough to fit the whole family while not too big to find parking in the city. Oh, and did I mention it looks bad ass!

i test drove two AT Tacomas because there were never any MT's to test. many say to test drive, but honestly both were miserable, horrible. but i did identify what's moddable. so i bought the thing and got to work. it's amazing, i love it. but the mileage totally sucks. i don't complain about that because i knew going in, but just mentioning it. don't want to be surprised by 17mpg on a good day (in my situation).

Get what you want! MPG sucks compared to a Prius! Hold out for the 2019 Ranger......

But ask yourself what you want to do with the TRUCK....and it is one......

    Why Tacoma?
Because my last a 1996 4x4 is still logging trouble-free miles at 412,000. No other truck for me, bought another a few months ago. (only if I could fine an OEM seat cover).

Because they run and run. See the above post, not all that uncommon with these trucks.

Honestly if you're not doing tight trails that a Raptor wouldn't fit on, and you can comfortably afford it I would do that. I love my Tacoma, but the Raptor is in a different league for comfort and ability (I've only ridden in the most recent one). That said I live downtown and even though I have a DCLB it's still easier to drive around town than the Raptor. I prefer the smaller size over the Raptor, however.

If you're ok with modding your rig, I would get the Tacoma Offroad. If you don't want to mod it then I would test drive a TRD Pro and a Raptor. Take them both on a highway cruise and a city cruise and see which fits you better. Both are amazingly capable off road and probably great for what you're planning on doing.

I'd been without a truck for around 4 years, and wanted to buy what I thought was the best truck made.

Looked at a lot of 1 to 3 year old used Tacoma's , and the prices people wanted along with most having close to or over 100K miles was insane. I could get a brand new one for $5 to $7K more, and get the exact truck I wanted.

The local dealership having a 20 year, 200,000 mile drive train warranty sealed the deal.

that's quite an incentive. sounds like a dealer who at least believes in their product. was the deal ok?

Couldn't complain. After the standard 5 year 50,000 mile drive train warranty runs out, I will have a $100 deductible. So if at 150K miles the motor, trans, differentials, or transfer case dies, I'll be most happy to fork over a $100.
