Why the "D-shaped" throttle body gasket?

    Lots of small stuff; Grillcraft MX, Bilstein 5100's, Deck Plate Mod w/ K&N air filter, Airaid MIT, braided SS brake lines, Redline Tuning QuickLIFT hood struts, Extang Full-Tilt tonneau cover, fog light mod, gray wire mod, power outlets on-demand, Diff breather ext, additional contours to passenger side from oak tree.
    Does anybody know why the 3.4L 5VZFE engine has a D-shaped throttle body gasket when both the throttle body and intake manifold have matching, round bores? I've heard different speculation and theories, but none of them stands out or sounds valid to me?

    Blindly assuming the O-Shaped gasket would provide better airflow, and therefore more power I swapped mine out this weekend. Now that I'm thinking about it more I'm wondering if I might also see worse gas mileage as a result of the MAF sensor picking up more airflow and increasing the fuel injection rate even if without changing my driving style?

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    The only reason it would be installed is to create a turbulant area in the intake. I never explored the reason behind it.

    Thanks for the feedback. What to you think about whether it's a good idea or not to replace the stock gasket with the O-style? Truthfully, I haven't really noticed a difference, which probably means it was not good or bad, just a waste of money...

    I have replaced a few of them with the gasket from the super charger. I never had a chance to dynmo that particular mod though.

    it probably wont hurt you but i doubt it would make a real difference. if you had a big problem you would more than like get a check engine light for fuel mixture issues
