    x2!

you have a locking axle and actuator...trace the wiring harness up from the axle into the cab and make sure that is there (the harness will go up the the frame and tie into the rest of the rear brake harness as well fyi)

then go in the cab and remove the lower dash panel where the vacant hole is and try to find the wire for it. If i remember right there are 2 wires that come out of the harness with the clutch start cancel and dimmer knob that go directly to the switch. the rest of the locker wires go into the 4wd box.

if you have the wires just tucked in the dash thats good, if not then it gets a bit more difficult. if there are no locker wires to be found you can either chase wires through the harness to the 4wd box, or just wire up your own harness to the locker motor

can you post a picture of the dash? the button says RR diff lock and its on the left side of the steering wheel, i cant imagine any reason why anyone would just take the dash apart and take the button out or cut the wires and just leave it like that. im baffled why you dont have a button really, and how far back stuff is missing

I've got a really strong guess we're going to get a chuckle out of some installers knuckleheadedness.

Here's a pic of where it should be! I installed the second switch below the light a while ago. I've also pulled the dash out to swap my gauge lights.

follow the wires from the actuator up to that switch, since that is the original area for the elocker.

    thats not possible.

the wires go along the frame up under the seat into a giant harness that disappears into the firewall behind the dash of the truck. when i cut mine out i took the harness from the seat back, finding anything in front of that connector was just going to be too much work, and that was even on a wrecked truck where i could destroy the wiring.

like i said he will be able to trace the switch back about 8" untill it meets more wires and gets lost, and the actuator up into the cab before that too gets lost.

i think op should rip the dash apart and take plenty of pics for us so we can see whats up, or he just needs to cut out the front half of the actuator harness and wire in his own switch

another question to the OP, says you joined in 2011, why has it taken this long to notice this? i think i would have been asking this question pretty soon after getting the truck

Always wondered, never bothered asking to be 100% honest. I haven't been in a situation where i'd need it either... yet!

To have a locker and no switch to use it seems almost criminal! ;)

A TRD means locker on the first gen taco (to 2004).
Many added the TRD Off Road sticker to fool people into thinking it has a locker.

Good to know. As the earlier picture shows, the actuator is clearly there. So my next task is tearing apart the dash. I plan on doing that either friday afternoon or saturday morning.

I was hoping for a wide angle shot, but it's not necessary.

When you flip the switch does the locker light in the dash blink?
or does the switch actuate something else? (sorry if i missed it)

When you first turn your key to on (not starting) when all the dash lights come on, is there a RR LOCK light?

The E-Locker has gotten me out of a few sticky situations where I would have most certainly needed a tow truck. Once was when we had a hard freeze and it iced over the roads, I was going down a windy curvy road and the tail end fish tailed around the corner sliding me into the ditch. I tried to climb out in drive, but my truck wasn't completely level one rear tire was in the air and the other was in the ground. I hit the the button, and it climbed out of the ditch like it was nobody's business! Works beautifully...and thankfully the truck received zero damage at all like it never happened.

If you look at the picture below you will see the two white connectors that should be in that cavity behind the dash trim. The one on the left is for the dimmer. The flat one beside it is the one that connects to the e-locker switch.

So here's a picture of behind my dash quite similar to the one above. I noticed there is one wire that was just hanging out, not plugged into anything. It is the top one just hanging out of the cavity.

When i turn the key to on, the RR LOCK light lights up, then turns off pretty quickly after that.

Well, you got the light, the wire harness (if the one in the photo is it), and if the locker is attached to the differential, then all you need is a button!

The locker will DOUBLE your traction ability... instead of just one tire spinning, they BOTH rotate together with equal torque and pulling power.

Sweet. Do i have to order a specific RR LOCK switch from Toyota? or can i pick up an aftermarket switch at autozone? And what is the best way to test it? I have an idea, but it may be frowned upon.....
