Why the fast idle at start-up?

    Love my new truck but at every single start the engine begins with a fast idle (~ 1500 RPM) until it settles down under 1K RPM. Is this normal?

    Yes its normal. I think its to get oil pressure up and get everything going but i could be wrong.

    Mine is a 2010 just a month old and it does this whether its cold outside or not, it will idle up. Hope this Helps

    Even the Tundras do it. My neighbor fires his Tundra up at 6:30 every morning for work. RROOOAAARRRR!.

    trd exhaust,step bars,vent visors,bed lights,tailgate mod
    during cold start the engine needs more fuel,so a higher engine idle is needed to idle correctly during a rich condition
