    I never said that the previous gen tacoma didn't have a rust problem, but the difference between Nissan and Toyota is that toyota did the right thing and offered to replace or repair these frames. Toyota stands behind their products. ;) The same thing can't be said for Nissan. Get your facts straight before making statements like;

    Now I am not saying Nissan did or did not stand by that product so I can't comment on that with any real fact. Yes Toyota did the righ thing there and replaced the bad frames. :)

    I sat in a Nissan Frontier and immediatley got out. I was instantly unimpressed. It felt small on the inside. So I bought the Dub D Taco. Now I get looks from Frontier owners. I guess it because they are imagining themselves in the drivers seat of my truck.

    I love Toyota and stand behind them 100% I own 2 Toyota products. One has 50k on it and only been to the dealership once for a Check Engine Light that was fixed within a day.

    ON the rust issue. Toyota is the only manufacture that has actually addressed a problem with rust. As I have seen many other makes and model with serious rust issues that have gon unchecked and blamed on adverse road conditions (i.e salt sand and what have you) So a thumbs up to Toyota for addressing a problem that they could have just written off.

    I just recently bought my first tacoma and did lots of research on this topic

    I was looking to avoid the initial depreciation of buying new, and was seeking a good used frontier or tacoma.

    Both seemed to hold their value, however the Tacoma a bit more.

    All the Frontiers I tested had interior squeaks and rattles at less than 50,000KM on the odometer. The engine and transmission felt smooth like butter and sounded amazing, however the research I did turned me off. I lurked clubfrontier a lot, and owners were complaining about blowing front diffs on a regular basis, and that it uses the same diff as the previous gen frontiers which were half the power and weight. Also the fully boxed frame would bend on flexing, with the bed rubbing off the cab being a regular occurrence. Also it seemed 1/3 of the owners had expensive timing chain issues which had yet to be resolved by Nissan. I didn't notice any difference in comfort in the interior, but the materials on the Frontier seemed subpar.

    This doesn't mean Tacoma's don't have their issues either. I do like the look and the engine + transmission feel of the Frontier, but thought I would be most happy long run with a Tacoma.

    I ended up finding a good deal on an 09 2.7 4x4 access cab, it lacks power but I don't tow, and the engine is supposed to hold up fairly well. I already had it undercoated to combat rust, so I hope it lasts me a long time. I am happy so far with my purchase.

    both trucks are great but nissan didn't offer a reg cab 4x4...so in my case the nissan i wanted was about $8000 more and it got 18mpg average instead of my taco that gets 22mpg average...and the nissan had bed rail caps that were rubbing the paint off on the back corner already sitting in the dealer lot...the tacoma bed rail caps don't touch the paint...the composite bed will never rust....metal will....i liked the interior of the taco better.....the taco has more space in the wheel wells which is better for adding bigger tires and offroading...the nissan prolly drives better on road due to this but i didn't buy a truck to drive like a car....i already have a car...a truck should drive....well....like a truck

    Well here's my contribution to the thread:

    Two years ago I bought an '06 XE with 19k. This was when gas was approaching $4/gallon, so I got the 4cyl/5spd.

    Two days after I got it the differential began "whining" around 45mph. Took it to the Nissan shop and they said the ring & pinion were shot and had to be replaced (under warranty). But having this kind of problem with only 19k set the tone for the rest of the time I would own this "truck".

    The DBW accelerator had to be the touchiest one ever made. Sometimes it would take up normally, other times it would lag. It was hit and miss.

    After 6 months (and about 7k miles) I had enough of the truck and sold it. On the way to drop it off to the buyer the airbag light started flashing for no apparent reason. I took it as a sign never to buy another Nissan product.

    I test drove a Frontier, I felt like my azz was dragging on the ground. To me the Frontier's stance is like a car. The Tacoma sits way higher:D
