If I had the option of the 4 banger I probably would have gone with it but the 4.0 V6 is a great engine. I cut my teeth driving 4 cylinder mercedes diesels with automatic transmissions and then manuals, and then turbo 5 cylinder diesels. I've never had a "fast" car, except for my 2007 MINI Cooper S that I did underdrive pulleys on the supercharger and crank plus a CAI. Best street legal go kart ever... But people today have to be able to accelerate from a stop light to 60 mph quickly for a reason I fail to find. Minivans make more horsepower than supercars of the 80's and early 90s. Lowest HP car I have owned and daily driven was my '64 VW Beetle which I think new in 64 had 40 HP at the crank, did just fine and kept up with most traffic. I'm looking to get a 2CV in the next few years to daily drive to work, which is all of 12 miles away on side roads.

The only time I paid $5 per gallon was probably around 07-08? maybe? for Diesel but I was getting 30-32 MPG so it sucked to fill up but it was a lot better than what the losers in the F350s were getting....

Oh yeah. I know it’s coming but here in Florida we have Desantis who will save us.

    Still thinking about it.
Hate for the 4 banger? If so, it’s not based on experience by people that want to drive a Japanese mini and know what their about. I’d have it no other way!

I’d rather have 159hp and USE THEM ALL!

I wouldn't do a thing to change my ownership of the 2.7L that came with my 2012 Tacoma 4x4 SR5 with manual transmission. Sure, it's a dog and I've had many "oh no" moments trying to pass vehicles in a hurry. MPG stinks IMO @ 18 city/23hwy. Best vehicle I've ever owned though.

I think back in the day the 4 bangers were worshiped because they were bullet proof. But when you get to modern day usage with the mods and weight they might be over worked a little for lack of better words.

The 3rd gen trucks with the 4 cyl have a better automatic transmission (more gears) and the performance button I believe which gives you better performance. The 2nd gen trucks with 4WD and the 4 speed automatic are painfully slow and with lift, bigger tires and added weight, they really struggle to get moving and get lousy gas mileage. I'm a regular cab guy so there is no 3rd gen option for me.

The 2nd gen 5 lug was the true answer, it was lower a suited even a 4 speed auto. Even the old pre-tacoma 5 lugs were fun to drive.
