Functionality difference between steel vs aluminum? Aluminum is lighter and less likely to rust but not as strong as steel. Anyone notice a significant difference?

Probably depends on what you're doing, and what sort functionality you're looking for. If you're driving down I-95 and looking to get peak MPG's, you want aluminum. Similarly if you're on a lousy road; aluminum's lower density means less unsprung weight and (typically) a better ride. If you're just mud-bogging through Iowa, where there's 30 feet of topsoil between you and the nearest rock, probably no difference. But if you're crawling through rock gardens in Arizona, you'd want steel. Aluminum has a tendency to crack rather than bend. And if it does bend, you can't bend it back without specialized tools. Which means you can't do a 'sledgehammer repair' in the middle of nowhere like you can with an old-school steelie.

Until a new color or material comes out that stays cleaner then I think black will be popular. I originally wanted chrome on my truck but I had to choose between it looking perfect 10 percent of the time or looking good 100 percent of the time. For me it's all bout how much I don't want to clean my wheels.

Race cars use black wheels a lot of the time and I think at least in the car world tuner cars and specialty factory vehicles started doing that to give them that kind of look. From a logical pov tar is black, road grime is black and less maintenance to keep wheels black. Either way it's all good though lol.

Easy to keep clean? When a black vehicle is the very hardest to keep clean... Hmmm On some trucks they look OK, (grey or bronze look way better) but on most trucks they suck. The thing that really gets me is the five thousand threads that ask: which of these black wheels should I get? Little secret, it doesn't matter because from ten feet or further they ALL LOOK THE SAME.

I think that rivets on wheels aka "simulated beadlocks" is a fad, along with rivets in grills and fender flares as well

black steel wheels are cheap in comparison to aluminum, or even chrome steel.

    easily touched up when scuffed,

I like black wheels for my color scheme now, but eventually I'd maybe like chrome rims and make this kind of thing happen on my truck, but it's easier sticking with black and white and putting the money I save into maintenance and mods:

Maybe after my suspension and expo mods are done...

That's impressive. The ocean mist in coastal air can do a number on metals.

Don't care for the black wheels on most trucks, some white trucks look pretty good. I didn't want to spend money on new wheels so I just dressed up the stock sport wheels for now.

The only wheel that looks good on an upgrade nferno.
I love matte black. Don't have to wipe them off. Just hose them down and they are clean
    Chrome is for motorcycles.
