Why the short turnaround on the upgrade?

I've noticed quite a few ppl here have gone from a '11 or '12 to a 14' Tacoma, or something similar. Do you guys just get bored with your trucks? Is it because you want a different model?

It seems the 2-3 year turnaround is somewhat common here, and am just curious as to why that is given the reliability of the truck.

some people maybe wanted the facelift................some people just habitually get a new vehicle every 3-5yrs.

sometimes they are single before, and now have a wife and kids and need to go from the first access cab to a new double cab

sometimes its them getting a 2wd first and now realizing or moving to a place where they need 4x4.

maybe the 3/36 warranty means more to others than some and they also got a good price for their old truck (old lol)

Yea, those all make sense. I am sure the reasons vary.

Common across all brands and all vehicle types.

2-3 years is typical, 4-5 at max. Anyone who holds for more than that is definitely not a typical owner. Even with Toyota's reliability they still expect customers to "upgrade" within that time frame.

Different types of vehicles have different "sell-off" points throughout the year though. I'm not really sure if there is a "best" time of the year to buy a Tacoma.

i think this applies to a LOT of people even more so than forum members, general public loves the "comfort" of being under warranty, they'd rather be under warranty for a window switch than having to pay for it (it'd affect their known monthly payment/cost), when in reality they're paying thousands and thousands of $ more than it would cost to keep their car/truck longer and buy that $20 window switch ;)
then there's the clueless that can't wrench their toilet seat, let alone work on cars...but that's another can of ...

I don't think it has anything to do with warranty. For $800 I bought a 7 year 125k mile bumper to bumper warranty.
I think people live on credit and like to have the newest model car and truck so they can maintain that new car appearance of wealth.

Many consumers wouldn't buy that warranty because most people out there would never consider owning the same vehicle for 8 years.

I think most Americans as a whole are pretty invested in their appearance towards others. They want to trade up their phones and other electronic gadgets, cars and trucks are no different. They want the new flashy thingy and they want to own it first.

    ^^ what he said

showing off what they can't afford to try to impress people they don't know or don't like.

I can't hate...that would make me a hypocrite. I did that a couple years ago by buying a Tundra just to drive to work (not load it, tow anything, or use it for what its built for).

I went from an 11 to a 13 for a couple reasons. One of which was the new front end. There were other reasons...one of which was the fact that I have bought 5 new cars in the last 3 years...because I'm an idiot...

I would assume that the trade in comes because there are people that lease for a couple years and just get the new model rather than buy the current one. Most of the trucks that are traded are fairly stock, so that would be my guess

    All good reasons, no beefs.
I bought my 14 TRD 4x4Sport, merely because I wanted to.
    I'll be 55 in a week, I don't have to drive what I don't want to drive.
Hated the Titan, only vehicle I have hated.
Sometimes you just have to say "Fuck it".
I have no need to be accepted by anyone, or judged by what I drive.
I can, so I did. I drive what I want, how I want to.
I will drive it into town in 20 years, trade it in for an electric wheechair, and a store credit for orthopedidic shoes, and maybe some pressure stockings.

This isn't just a Tacoma trend, I've seen it for every vehicle I've owned and joined an enthusiast forum. It's the smart phone era, or disease. You know the people that have to have the newest and latest and greatest phone?

Humans or Sheeple are the same with automobiles. I know a middle aged lady, makes good money, professional, but she buys a new Lexus RX almost every other year.

When I had my '13 F-150, and I was over on the F-150 boards. Everyone when bat-$hit crazy over the new for 2013 stock HID projectors. Guys were jumping out of 1-2 year old F-150's just for the new lights and newer 20" wheels etc..
