Much of my neck of the National Forest doesn't have cell service, and with a branch of the north country trail crossing through we come across lost tourists fairly often. None of them ever have paper maps and many stare at their phones in disbelief that their beloved pacifier has let them down.

Watch TFL’s videos about the new Colorado. Has bricked itself multiple times already, the entire digital display (with speedometer etc) stopped working and went completely black, the backup camera has been broken for months. Like you said, there is some tech if you like unreliable junk. Oh, all that but it doesn’t have cruise control.

You have apple car play and if you want to make the screen resolution higher, get a screen protector HUGE difference in resolution!

Did not but my 3rd Tacoma for the Nav system (did not get it on the 3rd gen) I bought it because of the longevity (I keep vehicles for a long time), looks and capability. I owned only one truck from the big 3 and it was horrible, never again. My Audi A5's Nav system is no screamer either. Pre-purchase research would've shown that Toyota is always 1/2 to 1 step behind in technology. Did not buy the truck for technology. Apple Car Play - works great, combined with Waze not much else I need to get from point a to b. Wireless would get rid of the cord.

I’ve had multiple other brands that the nav isn’t stellar. Plug your phone in and use that. Mine came with nav and it basically told me to go a longer route than Apple Maps did. It’s not as bad as Ford or GM where you have to input everything backwards starting with the house number atleast. And they let you have a home favorite shortcut that’s not bad. But I do t care for the unreliable directions. Not interested in the long way around when I know there’s faster routes. Apple even shows speed traps and accidents and will even offer mid trip shortcuts. ETA on the taco is way off also. Seems to continually adjust while driving. Not so on the phone which tells me eta within a couple minutes fairly accurately. Also the taco nav shows a pop up on the dash when close to a turn. Not a fan of that. If it was more accurate with better routes and eta then I’d say it’s a lot better than some of the others I have used. Tech package came with the truck so I’m not disappointed the nav isn’t on par with Apple. Sound system is more a let down with its finicky volume levels

You mentioned "big picture" and "preview the route". The attitude that GPS will tell you to turn when the turn arrives limits you. Both because the GPS is now master, but also because "turn NOW driver!" does not work if local construction that you ignored has blocked that road. Generally knowing where the path takes you allows you to predict that construction or weather in that direction could indicate a new path is required.

I'm old school, Toyota could of kept the whole nav screen out of my dash all together as it's just a big distraction for me.

you could just cut a piece of static cling type vinyl or material and remove when you able to focus better.

Search “TFL Truck Colorado” on youtube. TFL stands for the fast lane I think, and the truck is a division of that. Andrei from their channel purchased it as a personal vehicle. The problems have been many.

I used the Nav app exactly once in my 2018, just to see what the truck came with, and it was horribly designed that I never used it again. And even though my truck doesn't have Car Play, my iPhone works just fine connected via bluetooth and it travels with me in any other vehicle I might need it.

Coming from a 2020 Civic, I will say the screen works much better in the Tacoma. Honda's system was very laggy. I also dislike having to go through screens just to turn the AC on. So yeah there's much worse systems out there.
