last weekend did a 230km trip, found I was getting better MPG keeping it in S5 over leaving it in auto letting it get to 6th gear. It was changing gears less, and kept trans temps down on all the rolling hills.

hahaha one of the guys I'm working with right now is a big ford fan boy and he was giving me shit about oh why didn't I buy a real truck.

I bought mine for off road. i'd rather my smaller truck for tight trails, better approach angle, better ground clearance, and I find our locker better than theres.

I've seen plenty of full sizes with 34"+ tires that still have less ground clearance than my taco with 31.8" tires. Still much happier with mine, and I drive the full sizes all te time at work.

    Working on it.
Toyota by its very existence is one of if not the most boring car company around. In my eyes most of their offerings are right up there with the I give up minivan. They have been that way for as long as I can remember except for a few outliers that get killed off, the Supra comes to mind. I bought a Toyota for a reliable versital vehicle the boring option. I drive other thing for exciting driving. Wheeling is a different story all together.

if they can make up their mind maybe.
I'm guessing you're referring to the FT1, when they first revealed it everyone called it the supra and then Toyota came out and said no its not the next supra, its supposed to be the next 2000GT from the 60s. Which was limited production and expensive as fuck.

Now they're saying its the next supra. So who knows at this point.
Even if it is, they'll likely ruin its chance the same was they did the MK4. Who the fuck will buy a 80k Toyota sports car in the 90s when for about 10-15k more you could be in ferrari territory? It eventually became the tuner legend it is today but still, those that would want to build a tuner can't usually afford that type of vehicle...hence why they buy cheaper vehicles and tune them.
Make the FT1 cost 50-60k it will do great. Make it cost 160k+ and I highly doubt it will do well.

Its no different than what killed the VW Phaeton. When you're spending 90k on a car you're likely pretty wealthy, and looking for some flash, would you really want to pull up to a valet parking in a 90k VW or a 90k BMW? Which will turn more heads among those that know nothing about cars, which are the ones you'd usually want to impress, the BMW or the VW? I see a VW badge I'm thinking of a budget car, like VW was always designed to be. Not a luxury BMW or Mercedes. Figure a suit in his 30s going out, he's trying to impress some ladies, are you really going to turn heads with a VW badge? Sure to a gear head that knows its got the same W12 engine out of a bentley in it willl be fascinated, but when you're looking to impress women you're just impressing cock.

Usually I agree with Joe but we will disagree here. There is no break-in period that would discernibly impact gas mileage. That is an old urban legend, maybe from a time when engineering specs, tolerances, and materials were not as refined as they are today. My Gas mileage has not changed since delivery and 26K miles.

I just read that they may try to start it around 40k and obviously there would be a large range in price depending what you want. Depending on how it turns out this could seriously carve out corvette sales. Half the people buy corvettes because it is as close as you can get to a super car for a reasonable price. If Toyota can match that performance level they will take a lot of business.

I really like my Tacoma, I don't think its boring,
but I was surprised at how well the other trucks did in this test at Moab, not so much the raptor but the Dodge.

I got pretty bad mileage the first 1000mi or so of ownership. If you are going 75 that sounds like your problem. The money spot is like 68-70mph. I drive 28mi to sherman oaks from simi valley every morning, cruise 68mph on the 118 and then sit in bumper to bumper traffic to my law firm off ventura blvd but never get on the gas hard. I flow with the pace of traffic and average 22mpg+. My lifetime average is 19.8mpg because sometimes I dont care about driving for efficiency (such as weekends) and also have done a fair share of speeding in the past.

Just drive the speed limit +/- 5mph and dont floor it from red lights, and youll likely do better.

Wouldn't hold my breath on the 40K price. I see the price being closer to the $100k range as I feel they are wanting to build a car to compete against the GT-R. The Skyline and the Supra are the two cars of tuner legend and have a huge following. Toyota has seen how well Nissian has done with the reintroduction of the GT-R and I feel they are going to follow suit and build a car that lives up to the name.

Ah that would also be an exciting prospect. I wish someone would make a good 35,000-45,000 sports car. It is either underpowered for 25k then the next real option is at 50-60k.

I find this very unlikely. Toyota is not trying to compete with Lexus. The new Supra should be more in the 40-60k range.

6th gen camaro 1LE is best bang for your buck on market at the moment. Low 40s maybe better if you swing a good deal. Comes with the new LT1 6.2L V8 with 455hp/455tq. Only 3700lbs or so. Options 6MT and well equipped for the track. Its a beast. Nearly got one instead of the Tacoma but I'm just not a fan of Chevy or the Camaro.

The classics are the MR2 (all generations), the Supra mk 4, the Toyota pickup, and the AE86.

But Toyota has had a lot of interesting car lines like the Celica, Lexus SC, Chaser, 89 Corolla, and Tacoma 2nd Gen. Is the old school Lexus bubble a boring car?

The MK2 MR2, the Supra and the Turbo Celica were all available at the same time. Compare that to Toyotas current line up. Granted, there is a probably a financial reason why it's not doing that anymore.

Sales of sports cars and sports coupes aren't what they used to be. It isn't just Toyota who aren't offering sports cars anymore. Mazda had the RX-7. MX-6 and the MX-3 and the Miata all at the same time. Now they just have the Miata. Which isn't a fast car. So by your standards Mazda is a boring company too.
