Hence my wording "basic capability"... offroad capability is more unique I would say compared to how most people use their trucks. Most Tacomas do not offroad either. Trucks are used to commute, haul and tow for the most part.

I would venture to say that "most" people to not haul or tow beyond the capacity of a Tacoma either. Yes the full size can do it better, but I don't think I know anyone who owns a full size that does anything with it I can't do in the Tacoma. I'm sure there are people out there who do, but I think in both cases it is more the exception than the rule.

Driving around Phoenix, I would say 95% of the trucks I see have an empty bed and absolutely no scratches from any work whatsoever.

45% of Tacoma owners surveyed offroad. I know I offroad the shit out of my trucks and me and a lot of other Tacoma owners would be PISSED if Toyota listened to people like you and neutered the truck in the name of MPG.

The majority of jeep wrangler owners don't offroad either yet jeep still makes them for offroading in mind, same with the Tacoma.

My point is its stupid to complain that an OFFROAD TRUCK doesn't get the mpg's of a crossover, its literally no different than saying "My wranglers sucks! why doesn't it get 30mpg highway like the cherokee!?" Do you see how ridiculous that is to anyone that knows about trucks?? I also have a wrangler btw, it gets 15mpg and I don't complain because I understand physics...

some of this, a little of that
source? that just seems a bit high to me, but I guess it could be skewed depending on where the survey was done.

easy fix, option 1-stay to hell away from TW
option 2- only read every other post and you will feel a hell of a lot better about your truck.

Its called the self fulling prophecy. I think it sucks, I think it sucks, it does suck.

I don't doubt that that many people say they off road thinking they plan to in a survey. The number that actually do though is significantly lower. It is like that time your wife bought a kayak to get into kayaking but she used it twice and it has sat in your garage taking up space ever since.

Not to mention those who drive down a gravel road to camp twice a year...hardly offroading by TW standards

Bigger engines don't have to work nearly as hard as smaller displacement engines. and with all the technology in these new v8s its not a big surprise that it gets that good of mileage

    wait a little.
your MPG will be shit during break in.
I've got 8000km on mine now had it since january and its gotten much better in terms of MPG and power is getting better.
You just need to be up in the 3000rpm range to get a lot more fun out of it. Not really that bad for city driving since in stop and go traffic you don't need that much power. So it helps keep the MPG reasonable.
I'm getting about 12-13L/100km strictly highway doing 115-120km with moderate hills.

The ecoboost has major turbo issues too. I mean if you want to deal with that kind of engine go right ahead.

LFA was all about limited production nothing else really. I agree its a bit stupid to pay 500k for something that is no different from a 150k ferrari.

You say toyota doesn't make fun cars anymore that they're all underpowered? do you not remember how weak the AE86 was? it was just light so it was fun to drive. The GT86/FRS was made with that in mind. Its a light weight RWD car with small tires. I've taken them around a few tracks and they're slow but so much fun to drive. In a way I'd rather drive them over any supercar. Its slow enough you can just have fun going flat out down every straight and out of every corner.

With toyota you're buying reliability, or at least that's what its always been about. Even the second gens weren't all that powerful. Time will tell if the new tacos are the same. But they were never made with the idea of high power. And you get resale.

Go buy one of the GM twins and try and sell it in 5-8 years. It won't have nearly as much value as a tacoma will still have.
I wouldn't say the domestics have a better bang for the buck.
You might get more in the beginning for your money, with standard navi, heated seats etc, but in the long run they all break. Germans will always be expensive to repair, but the build quality on them is always way above the domestics. You get in any of these domestics like the cruze, malibu, focus etc and everything may look nice but it feels cheap. Dash rattles everywhere, cheap plastic for everything. Get in a BMW or Audi and no dash rattles, no cheap looking chinese plastic everywhere.

If you want a cheap vehicle that won't hold any value, go buy domestic
You want some of the best luxury on the market with great performance, but terrible resale and maintenance go buy german.

Want reliability and great resale, keep buying toyota.

16 MPG is right about where it should be. You gotta remember the highway MPG rating is based on going a steady 65 with out speeding up or slowing down. Also have to realize that when you drive to the free way and get up to speed you're getting 10-12 mpg at best. so that is going to drag your average down. Go take a road trip where you can put a 100 miles of highway driving at 65 without speeding up and slowing down. I would bet you see over 20 mpg.

And shifting between 2.5 - 3K rpm is high if you want mileage. try shifting a 2K and skipping gears. you might see a gain of 1.5 MPG better.

    I'm done with this thread.

LOL if you think you will get whats advertised then you need a reality check dude.
All manufacturers advertise a certain MPG, but those numbers are basically lab test. None of them are ever real world numbers.

Besides from what you're saying, yours is brand new. what do you have like 800miles on it?
Wait till you get more around 4000mile + on it. The MPG gets better.
I thought the same when I got mine when I was averaging 20l/100km, but now after break in its much better.

well the lfa was being designed for a long time, about 5 years into the design they scrapped the aluminum body design for a carbon fiber one, the spent another 5 years on it, thus making this car 10 years in the making. Even with them selling them at 500k each they lost money one every single one that rolled off the lot

An F-150 is not a fair comparison to a Tacoma--go check out the Fords - see many of them on the roads -- Chevy, not so much. Looking forward to the Ranger...:benchpress:

LFA was basically just a show car for them.
No different than Bugatti making the veyron. Sure VW was loosing money on them, but it was all about bragging rights to say they make the fastest production car.

In all fairness the LFA is beautiful and sounds absolutely amazing. Its just when you want speed its not the best choice on the market.
Its often compared to the 599 GTO, sure it might be cheaper and faster, and even being a ferrari I'd still rather a LFA over it.
