I've been looking to regear my 2.7 2006 tacoma auto to 4.10 gears but have been told that you need a third member. Why can't I just buy 4.10 gears front Detroit for a 7.5"? I got a spartan locker going in next week.

Need a little more info but the 7.5" is the TRD locker size. The non-locker are 8" ring gear in a 8.4" housing.
If you go to somewhere like eastcoastgearsupply.com they have a diff wizard that will spit out what parts fit in what years and what diffs

But really, you should talk to ECGS or randys ring & pinion for their expert advice.

From what I understand, installing gears is not for the shade tree mechanic - hence the 3rd member... Simply pull the axles and remove the third member and swap in the regeared 3rd member - so easy even I could do that!

In my case, a TTORA member 'gave' me his spare 3rd member which I sent out to be regeared. When I got it back I swapped the new for the old and gave the spare back to him...

X2 on contacting ECGS or any other forum sponsoring companies..
