I just got a call from South Coast Toyota the place I bought my 09 Taco from last year asking if I would be interesting in selling it back to them and in exchange I could get a 2010 Tacoma but first i would have to come down to the dealership so they could look at it. Has anyone every heard of this or has had this happen to them?

I get that in the mail every three months, promising 10-20% above book value. They are trying to unload their extra inventory.

I get the same letters from the local dealerships. I actually called once and told them I'd be willing to sell it back for the 10-20% below above kbb. So I went into the dealership, and they quoted me at kbb value. I showed them the letter and they said that doesn't apply to every tacoma and it's up to their discretion. = lame.

It's total BS and only a ploy to make money on your trade in (re-sale) and sell you a new vehicle that comes with new fees and no real discount.

I just returned my leased '07 to the dealer and picked up a '10. Because the MSRP and the lease rate had both came down, I was able to get a three year newer truck at the very highest trim level available for $60 less a month and zero cash out of my pocket or rolled in. One of the guys I work with bought my '07 from the dealership and actually made his deposit before my new wheels even arrived.

Make no mistake, I know exactly what happened.......The dealer was able to move a brand new unit PLUS sell a used one at a profit. I'm not so naive to think otherwise. I also know that I am in a truck that I like more than my other for significantly less a month. It also has a higher resale value and my intention is to buy it at lease-end.

I can also say that after many years of driving domestics which were absolutely worthless as soon as they rolled off the lot, it sure is a satisfying feeling knowing that we are driving vehicles that are in such high demand and that truly hold their value. Before I bought my '07 I had an '05 Avalanche. When I tried to return it 2 months early to get a new one they said that they would only roll the two payments into a new lease because the market value was thousands below it's buy-out and they wouldn't even keep it on the lot but would be sending it back to auction.

I would suggest that if you are interested in a new truck that you are fortunate to have options. I was even called an "idiot" on here when I discussed my new truck.......Now I don't get my feelings hurt very easily but if someone wants a new truck, who are we to judge?

The auto industry is a racket for sure but as Tacoma owners we have a lot more barginning power than most. My advice is be informed and investigate with your eyes open and make the decision that's right for you not anyone else.

    My $.02 CAD :)
