That’s why you always buy parts off Amazon not eBay :p

    I hope you're joking...

Amazon is no different from Ebay when it comes to car parts.

If you want to be assured that you get genuine parts, not only should you buy from a place with actual humans you can talk to if there's a problem, but definitely buy from a place that specializes in auto parts, preferably one that specializes in that particular brand, like a Toyota, or even off-road Toyota specialists. Don't buy parts from a place that sells games and books.

I've seen numerous instances where Amazon doesn't even correctly identify parts that actually fit your vehicle. Amazon is also the place that sells those crap ass ball joint/tie rod "kits" for less than a single OEM ball joint.

For some things, like fender clips or maybe trim pieces, sure, buy from where ever gives you free 1 day shipping, but for the love of god don't buy this crap:

If it didn’t come from the dealer there is no way to confirm you have an oe part. Way too much fake stuff out there.

are you talking about how it comes from the factory or what they use to treat it as part of the rusty frame campaign?

It's gotten to the point where I barely trust anything from ebay anymore. So much if it is counterfeit these days.

I recently needed front brakes pads for the Taco. Found a good deal on ebay for a Brembo kit that included pads and rotors. But after doing a bit of research I discovered an alarming number of counterfeit Brembo parts on ebay. I just couldn't verify their authenticity.

Then I found a TW member selling the same kit and I jumped on it until I realized that he bought the kit off of eBay. As far as he knew it was real. But no way for him to tell. So I had to politely decline.

And I'm not so sure Amazon is any different

No, your right. Had they used a really nice epoxy the crap steel could have been forgiven.

No one admits anything and it's true no frame holds up to salt water bathes w/o care but the frame spec. steel is one place Toyo. dropped the ball. Search for all the info. from the Dana settlement. I don't want to jack the thread to frames. There's a thousand already.

    Get a time machine.

But seriously, stop obsessing over it and just deal with what you have in front of you. You're not going to get any useful information out of any "testing" you could do with it anyway.

Dude, these frames don't spontaneously rust. You KNOW what is causing the rust. Keep that shit off your frame and you'll be fine. All vehicles are susceptible.

There is a reason that Caltrans (and more than likely every other DOT in the nation) has dedicated washing stations they routinely use for their trucks. Even vehicles designed specifically for snow (like the ones that apply the salt chemicals) will rust in half if you don't take care of them by keeping them clean.

What you should be doing is complaining to your local DOT about the use of brine chemicals that are known to cause rust, in ANY vehicle.
