Why'd you buy your OR 4x4 instead of Sport?

Why'd you buy a TRD OR 4x4 instead of Sport. I didn't realize it wasn't just a hood scoop..its 17 inch wheels, painted lower bumper, painted fender flares I think, etc.

What good is my 4x4 if my 4 Lo if front and rear goto MTS.? It's a little disappointing...

If you care about looks, Sport is for you. If you care about performance, OffRoad. I personally would never consider trading my ATRAC and Locker for a non-functional hood scope and some paint.

I thought I wanted what it offered but I found that the elocker was just undersized for the type of adventures I seek. I removed the elocker and replaced it with an 8.4 (standard fare for all other 2nd gen tacos) with an ARB. I call it the elocker delete mod. :) Personally, If I was to do it all over again, I would consider a salvage title one or base model (if they make them). The hood skewp/driver's glare generator is useless for my purposes - I personally would like a hood that dips down not up so that I can see more of the trail. The new rears (3rd Gen) are larger and the elockers may be better. I have no idea but I do like the iron truss on the back of the 8.4 which reduces it's tendency to flex and dynamically change the r&p backlash.

I liked the look off the OR better. The black flares and rims. The e-locker will suit what I do just fine. For me it is everything I needed.

Oh sorry. My comments are wrt 2nd gen.

Knowing you are talking about a 3Rd Gen, it comes down to if you want the crawl/dynamic stability/abs traction control features.

Toyota gave me a preproduction TRD PRO 4Runner to use for about a month and I am convinced that I like what they are doing with the traction control stuff.

I would go even farther and say I would buy one and have no need to alter the diffs. For me, I would gusset the spindles, a tad bit more armor and go see places like Moab, Ouray, the Sierras and the desert. IMO their Taco and 4Runner has moved the competitive mark up 2 full notches. Good luck and enjoy.

I prefer the looks of the OR. locker, crawl, MTS, non-vacuum brakes. I don't care for the hood scoops, the sport wheels, or painted everything.

I bought my sport because they don't give us shit for OR options in Canada.

I have a sport on order. Really like the look of the scoop and painted wheel flairs. I am not planning on off-roading, my truck will be more for transportation and to transport my bikes and kayaks. If I get into off roading I am sure I will regret my decision. I am sure an aftermarket locker isn't cheap. lol!
