I'm out of town and my wife called and said the front end of my 8000 mile truck locked up as she was running errands. She got to the end of the walmart parking lot and went to turn onto the road, made it about 10ft and the truck just skid to a stop. She tried to go forward and it just spun the rear end.

Once she backed up into the parking lot she call me and I had her put in 4 low and try to get the front end to break free with no luck (thinking the brakes are stuck, rear just was spinning), but she says it's fine in reverse. So I have no idea wth is going on with this thing. I baby this thing (it's been off-road once) and like mentioned before it only has about 8000 miles on it.

She has a tow company coming to take it to the dealer but of course it's Sunday and won't find out anything today. I'll keep ya posted what they find out in the next couple of days.

    ****UPDATE*****
Alright, here is what you all been waiting for.

It was the rear E-brake/brake-lines. Apparently the shop I had install the lift didn't reroute the rear brake-lines which caused them to kink/stretch enough to eventual apply the e-brake. Dealer has me for $120/line x2 and 5hrs of labor for a total of $980 plus tax.

Yes this will be addressed with the shop as this could have ended up much differently if they were on the highway when this happened.

This, the last time my Tacoma came to a sudden stop in the parking lot is because I still had it in 4hi and it was binding. Tell her to check for the 4x4 symbol on the dash

We were face-timing when I told her to put it in 4-Lo, I saw it was in 2-Hi when she made the switch.

It should go forward just fine though in a straight or relatively straight line even if 4hi is engaged on pavement.

The rear tires spinning but the fronts staying stuck sounds like something different altogether, like front brakes stuck. But it reverses normally. Odd.

Seen this happen the other way around where the rear tires wouldn't move but that was due to a frozen e-brake being stuck on.

Yeah that's what has me scratching my head. I've had the rear drums lock up on me after washing it and letting it sit overnight. Had to take a mallet to them to break them free.

But being in 4hi even on pavement isn't going to make the front wheels stick, unless you have them cranked one direction or the other.

If this were the case she should be able to drive straight forward just fine still

Sounds like a possible transmission issue to me but I wouldn't know what...maybe something up with 1st gear. Since it reverses just fine but won't move forward at all. Maybe it can't get out of park unless it's in reverse? I don't know autos so that's just a shot in the dark.

The 1st post says she tried to go forward after it skidded to a stop and it wouldn't move. Even in 4hi on pavement with the wheels turned it should move but it won't sound good. There's more than enough power to turn the wheels on pavement (and probably break an axle) unless she didn't give it much throttle. There isn't a lot to go off of here and with the OP not being with his truck at the moment I don't know if we can get the right info.

Just to rule out the 4x4 issue one way or the other ask her if the 4wd light is on the dash

Big ones are King suspension, SSO bumper w/winch, Pelfreybuilt sliders.
That sucks. Sorry your family is stranded. Is it possible she shifted from reverse to drive, vice versa with out stopping the car completely? Say, when leaving a parking stall or something? That can jack up the differential too.

    Like, so many.
This is so weird. I would have guessed 4hi, but that’s all I’ve got.

I've seen where a lower caliper bolt has fallen out and the caliper digs into the wheel going forward, but in reverse, it just slides on the wheel.
