X2-remember the old saying: a fool and their money are soon parted. most people eventually figure this out. some never do. money issues can really cause a lot of stress. always pay bills first, and never rack up credit card debt that can't be paid in full. a deep hole is very hard to get out of.

    Kinda wondering myself.

I don't really have many female friends. They confuse and confound me.

Well hate to break it to you but if you can't get this worked out before you're married it will only get worse as time goes on. A few tips to help are.

1, if it is going to be "our" money that means the credit cards are "our's" too.

2, If you're going to make major purchases without consulting eachother, be prepared to pay for it yourself. Don't expect help paying for anything else while you're paying off the item you didn't consult the other for in the first place.

3, Setup a budgeting software such as ynab that allocates all your money. This way you can set aside a certain amount each month for jeans, jeans, etc, but makes sure you still have money for bills.

Well, after reading the OPs comments, he appears to just be a pussy.

Why come on here asking for advice and then take up for her?

Just pay her bills and stop crying.

I suggest that both of you keep every receipt for every purchase that you make over the next couple of months. Gather them up and take a total of what you spend on gas, groceries, restaurants, hobbies, clothes, etc. You'd be amazed at how easy it is to spend small amounts of money and then a week or two later completely forget about it. Seeing the month end total will open your eyes.

I don't keep a budget per se but I keep all of my receipts and at the end of every month I tally everything up to see where my money is going. If something gets out of control and I spend more than average I try to be diligent the next month about what I am spending in that category. Its definitely helped me keep better track of my finances.

Yeah that is one of her problems is she just kept track of her spending by looking at her online account. She would never keep reciepts and she would just tell me, its okay i know what i have in my account. So she just figured if she has money she can spend it...but it looks like shes down to change and knows what she was doing wasnt cool
