600 miles on my brand new taco.. I was parked at a gas station, had the front wheels full lock one direction, I went in came out and on my passenger side someone had knocked over a concrete trash barrel and it rolled under my rocker panel. I straightened out the wheels and when I did it set the truck down right on top of the bastard and it pushed my rocker into my door.

Ended up spending a while at the body shop so they could fix my brand new truck....

    Wish I had sliders...

Go slide on a rock and damage the rocker (gently of course). You'll have to spend a few hundred bucks extra on the sliders in the form of body work, but you'l get the sliders and your point will be made! Also, look up the definition of vindictive while you're at it.

    I mean… it’s a Ford, you don’t care
Told my wife that it would prevent door dings, and paintless dent removal would be more expensive. The difference is my wife doesn’t care what I’d do, and that was my most legitimate concern :rofl:

    Well said.

My girlfriend and I never got married, but have been together for almost 20 years now. We used to argue about money occasionally. I opened a separate bank account a while back, and we rarely even talk about money anymore.

A friend of mine is a good example of marrying the right woman. She actually encourages him to buy things for his car. Crazy, right? A woman who actually wants her husband to be happy.

If she's saying you can't afford them due to your common financial interests or goals, that might be a good argument.

If she says you can't buy them because she doesn't think you need them, then it sounds like she's being unreasonable.

If she's saying that you don't need them because you don't ever off-road and she doesn't want you to look like a poser, then that's just hilarious!

When I take my wife wheeling with my friend's who have truck mods I want I just make sure she is around when they are being used ... like in the case of airing up tires with an ARB compressor. She saw me using @EatSleepTacos 's compressor once and asked why I didn't have one. :D:D:D

So when I sold my 02 Tundra and was looking at a new truck I put the MSRP of a new one on the table...and then suggested I get the “cheaper” Tacoma but have the difference as my “budget” for mods. That was three years ago...never had this discussion again and frankly the budget has made me make good decisions. Still have enough left for the supercharger. Lastly, buy parts off season, at Xmas life is busy and wife’s go into kaniption mode easily...wait until the mood is right...sage advice overall...

My opinion is this is exactly how it should work. My girlfriend is a “ do what makes you happy” person. Many couples argue about money, so we removed that from the equation. We pay the mortgage and other bills together, have a small joint savings account, each save for retirement, the rest is each our own for whatever we want it to be. I’ve got a closet full of skis, garage full of fishing rods, whatever I can afford for the truck. She thinks it’s great.

You wonder what happened to the OP. He took his balls out of his wife's purse and thought he could make a big boy decision. Here's what happened.

People in here seem to forget every relationship is different. What works for some, doesn’t work for others. Sheesh.

Joint savings account with your girlfriend? Sounds like it's time for a ring.

Eventually, we’re not in a rush really. It’s all the same thing, ring or no ring.
