    Yep
    Hey all,

We are planning a road trip for later this summer.

My little one loves on-line games. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to get a temporary wifi connection through the truck using the antennae the way Sirius would?

    * I don't have Sirius turned on and I'm looking for an alternative to cell phone hotspot.

I believe you can set up your cell phone as a hot-spot

I know that some of the newer truck have the OE cellular connection. But adding it to your truck would probably be cost prohibitive. Your best bet would be something aftermarket. Maybe even try your cellular provider to see if they have anything to offer?

    Starlink maybe?

A few options use your hotspot ...get them games that don’t require WiFi ..or trade your truck and get a vehicle that has WiFi ....I think they will live without WiFi lol

Use hot-spot on your phone as main source for internet for your kids to connect to while on the road.

I do that on long trips for my son.

    Starlink isn’t for mobile use.

I admit that, other than the launches, I haven't really been keeping up with the technology. But I really thought that the intended use was for mobility?

can you elaborate on this a little? I can’t think of any solution that isn’t a cell phone not spot, Ie they all take a cellular data connection and turn it into a very localized WiFi. In car WiFi, is actually a cell phone hotspot (just not called that), MiFi is again basically a cell phone hot spot (just not called that), your cellular companies ODBII connector with WiFi (Ie sync up drive from T mobile), is again, a cell phone hot spot.

Do you want “local WiFi without internet”, so the kids can play games against each other? Then you have other options. But if you need internet, cell phone hot spot (by any name you’re being sold it as) is really all you’re getting.

Also starlink is currently only offered in specific areas.

At work we have wifi pucks but they used mobile towers. So if you don't have reception, you won't have wifi.

It’s because they don’t have enough satellites in orbit yet for full coverage

I thought on a road trip you're supposed to be adventurous enough to look out the window?

People cant put down their mobile devices long enough to look at LIFE.

Unfortunately I'll agree with the OP on this one. Give the kiddos something to do beside yell and scream.

There once was an era where all mom and dad had to do was turn around in a car and give you that look. That was the cue to STFU and settle down. It's a big world out there, take time to see it Candy Crush no one is going to be on their death bed wishing they had played that some more.

I agree 100%. But it's hard to pass up the soothing device when the kiddos get restless.
