    Dear Butanio (Inwood Customs),

Why stop at just Wikipedia when trying to determine which beer they think is best for all of us beer drinkers out there. Why not also refer to Consumer Reports? This way they can tell you which beer is the most cost effective beer for the price without putting any consideration into the flavor of the beer.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

I had a neighbor that owned a "Porsche". He changed his synthetic oil every 1000 miles. I was tempted to ask him for his "Dirty" oil so I could change mine.

synthetic Oils I know are great but it's about having clean oil that's not contaminated with dirt.
synthetic Oils get dirty just like any other oils.
3000-4000 mile oil changes have worked for me just fine,

That's why you have a filter :) One of the easiest ways to extend oil life is a filter change and leave the oil (minus what you lose in the filter) alone.

Not direct experience but I remember being on a forum a few years ago. Another porsche guy bragging he changed his oil every 100 miles as the car "doesn't feel right" unless the oil is "new".

I figure he was either 1. Lying 2. Stupid or 3. Borderline broke. Possibly all 3 at once. He was not amused when I mentioned he must have bought the biggest POS on the road if it can't run without new oil constantly.

But since I mainly poke people to amuse myself and him not being amused was amusing. Win!

Unrelated but I'm due to change my beemers oil, I've got to be within a few hundred of 15k.

I run amsoil synthetic in my truck and I change it when it goes black which is typically about 10k...last change I went about 11-12k. Guy who owned the truck before me changed his oil every 3k with synthetic...such a waste of oil. And talking about synthetic being the same interval as dino oil is wrong. Amsoil synthetic states its up to 10k. Talking about that...Amsoil now sells a "signature series" which lasts for 25k miles...

If you are looking for guidance for your particular case, IMHO, it's easy. You only drive 7k a year, switch to synth and change once a year. If you look at all the synth recommendations, I doubt you will find one that recommends going over 12 months on an OCI. But, to be honest, and again IMHO, I would also not have any problem in using any good conventional for 12 months and 7k miles.

I did CAREFULLY change (followed manual and checked all bolts) the valve cover gasket last January [because there was a leak that accumulated oil for years]. Probably not as bad as before, but there is a slow leak towards the side rear, where the cover slopes compared to the front area. I wonder if switching to synthetic would leak more oil faster there.
