Yours may be a little longer. I have plenty of room to close mine. I say go for it. If it doesn't work just sell it

He may be able to weld on a tab to correctly catch the tonneau. And once he is already striking an arc it should be a simple matter to add thin filler plates in the gate. Just an idea.

Hey Rick, the openings in the gate will create a vacuum in the bed under the tonneau at higher speeds. Your bed will suck up every piece of road debris, salt, dirt, dead coons, squirrels, and maybe a few cats between Auburn, Springfield, and Boston. Whatever you carry in your box will turn into one cluster-fuck of a mess.

    Been there, done that.

Just watchin' out for ya, Bro.

If you took the tonneau off, there would no problem.

Maybe a seasonal fashion switch is in order. :notsure:

    - tire gate without tonneau in summer (that's when you'd use it anyway :mudding:)
    - no tire gate/ use stock tailgate and tonneau in winter

You're truck would be a fashion diva!

I've had caps on old beater pick ups without the back window. The inside of the bed and cap were completely messed up from the vacuum that was created.

The truck that I own right now had the tailgate stolen. I drove from Montreal to Kingston with a tonneau cover and without a tailgate last March (check my build). I chipped the ice off the luggage that was secured in my bed when I arrived home.

    As per above.

It boils down to the laws of physics and flight. The air flowing over the top of the tonneau cover/bed, and the air flowing under/over the bottom of the truck are moving faster than the static air in the bed. The faster moving/higher pressure air from the top of the truck and the identically influenced air from the bottom of the truck meet at the rear tailgate area and create a vortex, hence negative pressure in the enclosed bed, which draws the air out of the bed area. When the vehicle slows down, air is pushed back into the vacuumed bed area because of the higher air pressure outside. Crap, in the form of vapour and air born particles, are blown back in with the air as the truck slows down.

= shit show when you roll back the tonneau cover!

You need to live in a winterized area and have driven pieces of shit like I have to understand this phenomena!

    You're welcome. :hattip:

    That's one sweet tire gate.
I'd buy it and try looking for a cover that will fit nicely.

    Good luck on your quest.
