Having had several types of rear of vehicle mounted spare tire carriers on my Jeep over the last 38 years, and having seen all but one fail, all I can say is this looks good. Supported on both ends, and mounted essentially over the bed put the stress on the suspension where it should be. So now I'm going to look and see if they make them for CJ's

If you look that thing is built like a tank. Quality materials and construction cost. But if it's as good as it looks it'd be worth it.

Thread bump, been thinking about getting the tiregate for my second gen but just can't get myself to pull the trigger because of the price (seriously you can get a front bumper with lights and a winch for the same price). Guess its my own damn fault for not getting a rear bumper with a swingout. How's yours holding up after a year?

Ive been eying this for a while now but ive been wondering if it would work with my bed rack. Could you measure front the top edge of the tire to the bed?

can you post a close up picture of how the black frame mounts to the truck itself? I'm interested to know.

I was thinking the same thing. Waaaay to pricey. I just busted my tailgate and was really considering something like the Wilco tire gate, but not after I saw the price

Bumping up again to see if anyone else has added this. I'm interested to get this for easy access to a spare while off-roading.

I installed the Tiregate on my Gen 2 in 2016. It's held up great, but be aware, when closed with a 35" spare, it takes up about 9" of the truck bed. This will prevent installation of the Decked cargo system, and probably other systems / bed toppers, etc. With all that said, I really like the system and think it looks cool. I didn't have any issues installing it, really just needed a socket set, as I remember. 20190825_121135.jpg 20210820_195847.jpg

So this is the "pre-runner" one? It says they only fit 16-18. Sorry if I am asking a dumb question, I am new to the tacoma world. If it fits, I see it in my future. Did you just turn yours around so the tire sits inside the bed? I like the look you have better.

On my "list" but likely from a different manufacturer. Can't justify the Wilco price.

This is the invoice and the part number that I ordered. TY80008-PR. I appears to be out of stock everywhere and truckcandy.com doesn't appear to be an active URL anymore. Some sites referred to this as the "PreRunner" tiregate. I have the 2007 Sports Edition 4WD/SR5 model and fit was good. This model allows you to position the gate either to hold the tire inside the bed or outside. You just mount the gate on the opposite side. All parts are provided to mount in either configuration. *Edit
Shoved the full size spare up under the truck. G2G and saved me 2 grand.
