I am trying to black out all my emblems. I pulled the "TOYOTA" off the tailgate and noticed that it was made from a diff material than the door badges. I think the "Tacoma" and V6 and SR5 are made from the same. I want them painted but I won't do it on the truck. Will badges from a 2nd gen look good? I found some on Ebay for 15 dollars.

Replaced chrome badges with Sockmonkey black badges, painted billet grill black, K&N cold air intake, my corner light turn signal circuit, Speedfreek traction bars, RAAMaudio BXT/Ensolite, Stereo: Kenwood KIV-701 USB/Bluetooth deck, 10" Pioneer shallow sub behind the rear seat, Infinity 6822cf 6x8 front and rear doors, Fosgate P400-2 (sub), US Acoustics USX-4065 (four main speakers)
Just happens that someone recently posted pictures of their 1st gen with 2nd gen badges. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/82452-2nd-gen-badges.html

Yes, the tailgate badges on 1st gens are rubbery. I painted my badges black after I took them off, but I wasn't happy with the way they came out.... and I took my time. Of course that could be a skill problem :)

I think blacked out 2nd gen badges would look good. Consider buying a badge set of vinyl stickers from Sockmonkey (on this forum). I went with his black vinyl badges. They look good and the truck is easier to clean without big plastic badges.

Yeah I have the same problem...on both sides. The one side was taped but not cut around the letters...the other side was reapplied w superglue. Sucks. so the normals are going back on the door but the tail will get some 2nd gen badges. :D
