I don't see why not. Once they get past the growing pains of a new vehicle.

If it conquers the rust problem, more reliable as each generation has been.

It's a Toyota... It'll last forever. The better question is: How reliable is the new Tacoma? No one knows considering it is a new vehicle with a redesign. I'm placing bets that it'll be on par/better from the previous generation(s).

3rd gen has more technical crap to go wrong. More complex engine, transmission, and electronics will reduce reliability in a few years of use.

The 2nd gen was more complex than the first ...lit faired quite nicely. All cars and trucks have become more complex and Toyotas still get better as to the other top auto makers in quality. Actually, fewer mechanical cmections, more solenoids have increased reliability. Electric wires out last linkages.

Man, I hope not. I am going to get a 2016 SR5 or Sport AC in January or February. Just maybe dealerships will be willing to negotiate.

it has probably similar tech to what my 2006 jetta has lol. aside from the charging thing and the blind spot monitoring. Similar idea of a transmission with the direct shift option.

my Jetta is almost 10 years old and still going strong with no check engine light. I've actually only had a CEL once and it was for a MAF.
only issue I have is a air bag light because the passenger side impact ignitor is broken and a bulb out light because the wire going to the plate light is broken so it throws a fault. Considering the idea that all VW are terrible and have tones of problems and I have had none besides a blown turbo which was caused by tuning, and toyota have a huge reputation for being very reliable, I'm going to assume that the new taco will be fine in reliability.
And its not really all that new of an engine or transmission, just new to the tacoma, not at all new to Toyota and Lexus.

If people actually maintained their vehicles they wouldn't have all these issues everyone always complains about. I was talking to a friend of mine who is a mechanic and I mentioned how I am always on the dot for scheduled maintenance and if something ever breaks fixed right away. He worked for dealers in the past and now on his own and he says all the cars he sees often are because of people not doing maintenance. If you don't take care of your shit its just going to snow ball into bigger problems.

People are stupid, they want to buy a car and then never pay anything for maintenance but complain when something goes wrong. If you cant afford to and are not willing to pay for maintenance I suggest you do not buy a car and stick to public transit. /endrant.

Its definitely not made as simple as the previous gen, but its also not as loaded with tech as a lot of other newer vehicles. Main changes are the engine and transmission which have been in other Toyota and Lexus models, so not completely new equipment. That's partially why I like the seats still not being powered, less to go wrong haha.

Higher strength steel, better frame, better looks (IMO) better MPG, More HP, Better Interior, best in class off road. I don't see why there's so much hate... It's a Taco. Be glad they didn't discontinue them. My Ranger is DC'd so I couldn't upgrade to a newer model... I upgraded to a Taco

Trucks were never designed to be fast. The new ones make like 30 more horsepower, big whoop lol.

That's why the f150 sells so many trucks. They actually go fast and handle well. Make no mistake, a large number of drivers want it all. We may think trucks don't handle well and accelerate fast, but they do compared to older cars and many compacts. My 4 wd doen't for sure. I had a lowered preTaxoma Toyota with a v6 and is was like driving a Crown Vic....well almost.

Yep, times have changed. Guess I'm old school. The trucks I grew up driving were so low geared that 60 was about as fast as you could wind one of them babies up to without having the engine pegged at screaming RPM's all day long. The Tacoma sure is a nice highway truck, I can cruise at 75-80 and it hovers right around 2400 RPM at those speeds.

I've driven a few of the 5.0 equipped F150's and they sure are nice and do produce gobs of power like no other. If they held their value like Toyotas do, there's no question I'd own one. But I can't bring myself to spend that much on a truck and have it's value plummet like lead over the next 4 years. Having a Toyota is a good investment, the Tacoma holds its value probably better than any other truck out there. Sad thing is, the 5.0 F150 gets the same mileage as my 3.4 with double the power! Haha

So true! The old Ford F150 from the early 1950's was a half ton pick up about the sane size as the new Tacoma only the Tacoma has about 3X the HP if memory serves me. The flat heads produced about 100HP+ or am I thinking about the straight sixes in the GM's. 3 speed transmission and you were good to go. Options consisted of a radio or not and a 2 speed heater. Times have changed both in the vehicles and our expectations. When I look at the truck I ordered and the truck I really need there is a wide margin there. I could have made do with a 4x2 with a LS Diff but ego being what it is.....

I think those old flatheads only made 50 to 60 hp lol.

How soon we forget. I just goes to show you the difference between what we need and what want. Grand-dad just before WW11 drove from Jasper, Alberta to Edmonton with his four girls and wife in a 37- 38 Chev and had six flat tires between Jasper and Edmonton which was then an all day drive and now is around three hours. Times change for the better.
