Engines sustain the most wear when they dry start when there is no oil pressure and the galleys are empty.
Starter motors (were) intended to start the engine once, then not again until the engine is shut down.
I seriously doubt the duty cycle of a starter has increased where it can cycle so often in traffic.

The combination of over-cycle starter motor and chronic dry starting tells me engine life is short.

The starters are designed for higher duty cycles, and an engine that has been off for 30s isn’t “dry starting”

I highly doubt everyone is going to do that and you shouldn't have to.

Plus I read somewhere you need some kind of subscription for remote start?

For pre-starting a vehicle, I'm not concerned at all about letting it warm up from an 'engine' driveability standpoint. I know to take it easy the first few until things get moving. And I don't really care about me being cold, I can deal for 5 minutes. My problem is that we get very heavy frost very often, along with ice coatings early and late winter. The vehicle needs to be able to melt that down as it's not very scrapable, so gas gets burned. I'm ok with that.

For instance, it's 11:20 am local time as I write this at the moment, and I'm still covered with frost... sitting in the sun...

As a group who seems to constantly state the taco's get fairly low / average mpg, and then pray to Toyota Kthulu to up it for the 4th gen, adding a function that really doesn't get much just doesn't do it for me. Plus I tend to never come to a complete stop unless I have to, so that should save a bit on starting moving again, no?.... derp...

Auto stop start systems usually wait for warm engine temps before functioning. You’ll still be able to drive a cold engine safely

if it’s anything like the new Tundra. The remote start will shut the engine off when the door is opened. And after the first year, it’s $15 a month for the remote start feature.

Think it’s funny how people complain about pushing a button to turn off a feature and complain about a light on the dash because of it.

Allegedly they fixed the engine shut off with the door when opened on the tacoma but not sure about any fees.

That's pretty crazy if you have to pay a monthly fee for remote start...

You have to pay to use the cell app. Which is fair imo since data plans aren't free. You can use the fob for free.

So the fob has a remote start feature? If it does, why use the cell phone?

My F-150 does not have a remote start fob, and only works through the app, it's kind of dumb that way, so far the Ford app hasn't had any subscription fees. I think it should be free for the life of the vehicle, since there's no fob option.

Sport mode likely disables start-stop on the Hybrid Tacoma.

Here's a pretty good video on offroading but you can see how to switch modes.

I wonder if only the automatics have this option.

What option, sport mode? Probably hybrid automatics only.

I’m pretty sure it’s only hybrid automatics that have start-stop.

Thats a sensible decision by Toyota.
I would hate to be the owner with all the extra crap that’s possibly attached to the battery case. A major PITA when just trying to remove it.
