Hello all, I hv a 2000 Prerunner Ext Cab with standard bed, I found a softopper on Craigslist for $500 less than a year old. I spoke to the seller and he says it will fit on 1st Gen ext cabs but I would have to buy different clamps. I emailed Softopper but have received no response. Does anyone have any idea if this will work and where to get clamps?

Pretty sure it will fit. At one point I saw item numbers for all the softoppers and if I remember correctly the 1st and 2nd gen are the same. Third gen softoppers are a little different

    Fit? Sure.
    Well? No.

Different widths and the 2nd Gen bed tapers.

I have a short bed, but I believe the difference is the same: the 1st gen topper is about 3" taller than the 2nd gen. Here's my first gen with second gen topper. For the price I payed, I'm happy. If I bought one brand new, I'd get the right one. Hope that helps

They also use different clamps. The first gen uses a standard style topper clamp, the second gen utilizes the utility track as a clamp point. You can buy the clamps from softopper, or retrofit the 2nd gen clamps by mating the tops of the clamps with the bottoms of standard style clamps.... I did the latter

Thanks everyone for your input, better buying one that fits than trying to modify to save a couple of dollars, and then probably spending more, lol.

Mine is off a 2nd Gen. I had to modify the back bar for the rear window. But it fits decent. Only downside is the window against the cab is a little low.

Thank you, when you say “modify”, big job or easy job? Now I’m reading on the softopper site, 2001 to 2003 is different than pre 2001, and I can’t even find any new one for 2000 models, so I’m thinking of modifying, lol

Just heated up the tab, and hammered it down.
