    Hi All,
I am trying to get rid of my truck it is a 2014 sport prerunner long bed with 19k miles. I lease it but I found another car private party so I want to just get rid of my truck. That being said:

-Will a dealer buy my car even if I am not trading it in?
-Can I just turn it back in early to my dealer and pay any difference that might exist?

I already tried carmax but their offer was ridiculously low.

    Thank you!

Some will, but you'll get hosed on pricing. I'm really not about what type of lease you've got, just call them and see.

    Kinda what I figured.

Carmax offered 22k. Blue book was about 5-7k higher.

Yeah you need to call the leasing company and see if they offer you some sort of buyout

Secondary air filter removal, K&N drop in, Removed front mud flaps, Toyota all weather matts, skid plate, bug guard. Bilstein 5100's all around fronts set at 2.5", OME add a leaf, Goodyear Wrangler Authority 265/70/17, stubby 6.5" antenna, smoked tail lights, blacked out badges.
The low balling never ceases to amaze me.

    But it's a PreRunner, a 4x2. They don't have the value of a 4x4.

So you think a 2014 2wd is worth 27-29k? What was the selling price new?

Yes I think it's worth 27k and that's also the book value. I also live in CA so things are generally higher in price.

Idk I think it was 32 or 33 when I got it new.

Carmax has been low balling trades for years now. They used to be fair.

You can get a brand new truck for this.

Remember too that carfax has to make a profit. They are not going to give you private party or even trade in value for it

It goes without saying BUT, if you want retail (or anywhere close) value.........RETAIL THE TRUCK. As in sell it yourself. The leasing company will give you a buyout quote if you ask (I believe anyway, I haven't seen the terms of yours).

What you did was try to sell it to a wholesaler. Someone who buys something in order to resell it. If it's worth $27k (and I'd argue that point KBB or no) then they CANT give you close to that. They have to make a profit, and they want to make all they can. I suspect you might get them up to $23.5k or maybe $24k.

The difference regionally is prices is amazing to me. I bought a '14 DC TRD OR 4x4 for $30,800 plus taxes and dealer fee ($500) in 14 and traded it for a '15 a year later that cost me like $31,600 plus. How they sell PreRunners for that kind of cheese is baffling to me.

On the other hand, who pays within $3k of new price for a two year old truck? I saw trucks advertised used for as much or more than I paid for mine NEW! I had a used car dealer in Pensacola FL offer me $27k sight unseen for my 14 before I traded, and it had almost 40k miles. Unreal.

I know what dealers list these at is insane.
I would try and sell it private party but I can't.

I was reviewing my lease paperwork and Toyota will only sell the truck to me unless I traded it in.

I guess if someone wanted it they could give me the money and I could pay it off, but the terms say the money has to come from me.

List it on Leasetrader. I dumped a lease on a 2014 Corolla that way and it was pretty painless. They charge you a flat fee ($249 maybe) and they advertise it on the site to people interested in taking over the lease. The paperwork took a while, but they help you with it, and once its done you just deliver it to the new lessee and that's it.

...^^^... Sell your truck out-right ... pay off the lease ... buy new vehicle of your choice.

The above will be based on your payoff of course and how your lease is written.

FWIW ... basic rules to get out of a lease fast (not the best lease for the purpose of a lease though) ... (1) pick vehicle with high resale (2) put a lot of money down (3) get low interest rate (4) lease for about 30-42 months range as a sweet spot ... I like 36.

    Bone Stock.Why mess with perfection?Except...
First thing I'd do is check the lease contract. It is almost always weighted in the leasing company's favor. Putting more miles on the truck than the contract specifies and ending the lease early don't usually work out very well. YMMV and good luck with your trade.

Update: kbb has an instant offer thing were you put in all your details and they give you a price for your vehicle.

After that you take it to a list of dealers so I'm gonna try that.
