I'm trying to sell my tri-fold tonneau pro (42-501 I think), that had fit my 2nd gen shortbed, on craigslist. Someone asked if it would fit their 2016. Seems like it should. The rails look exactly the same. Before I invest the time in meeting to try it out just wanted to get thoughts from those on the forum.

    Thanks,

They are close but not the same, fit will be off unfortunately. I haven't seen anyone try a 2nd gen tonneau cover on a 3rd gen, but the part numbers from the 2nd gen to 3rd gen are different and the beds are slightly different.

I just traded in my 2010 for a 3rd Gen. I purchased a tonno pro and used it once on the second gen.
I sat the 42-501 on my 17. It seems to fit, but the front rail of the bed is my only question mark for water tightness.
The clamp system seem to be to long with the current plastic spacers on the stems. It looks like the rails are higher on the 3rd gen.
Removing one of the spacers will likely do the trick.
I really don't care about it being totally watertight as I live in AZ and the purpose of the purchase for the 2nd gen was to hide my stuff while I was traveling.
Since I plan to give it a try with my 3rd gen, I will let you know more about the sealing ability once I put it on and clamp it into place.

    Update:

Here are some pictures with it sitting on the bed, uninstalled. The first view is the head rail near the cab from the side so you can see it is sitting about half way on the rail.
The next two are the side rails and the last is the tail gate.
    Judge for yourself.

I have a 2nd on my 3rd. Measurements were exactly the same. The only difference was I have that square tube across the front of the bed and there is a small gap on each end. videos of installing a 16 tonneau cover showed them taking that tube off and putting the provided gasket in the space and then reinstalling tube. My 2nd gen cover came with 2 long strips of that material so I cut 2 squares the size of the tube and put them in. I have had no leaks or anything and I saved a bunch of money.

apologies, i am very late to the game on this. I am very curious what strip material you mean. I am looking at purchasing a tonneau off of a 2nd gen DCLB for my 3rd gen ACLB

It's kinda like a foam filler that you can put into the gap at the front of the bed between the side and front so water doesn't get in

Good day all - what are the dimensional differences between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen 6' beds? I am looking at going in the reverse direction: I have a 2011 access cab w/the 6' bed and looking at a 3rd gen cover.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

They are essentially identical, less than 1/2 inch total in width and length. The biggest difference is the bed height and rail placement. It is 1" taller on the 3rds

Can confirm - I have a 2nd Gen on my 3rd Gen. The brackets are different because the bed rails are different heights. They’re longer on the 3rd Gen.
