I will be doing some bear hunting in GMU 12 sometime between May 20-30. I've never been there, so this will be more of an exploratory trip than anything else. A chance to hike and camp with a gun.

I know that area gets a lot of snow, and north facing roads can still be buried, but in general how are the roads there at the end of May? I really can't say exactly where I plan to go as I will wing it once I get into the area. I'll probably be somewhere in the middle of the GMU off HWY 12.

Any areas to definitely avoid? If you see a black taco with a white shell and Arkansas plates, stop into say hi. If I'm stuck, please stop to pull me out!

There's good chance I'll park off the main road and hike up a drainage that looks remote but hikable.

Go fish Kelly Creek if fly fishing is at all on your radar. It's the bees knees.

I thought of that, but hate to post in a thread that seems more for the locals.

I moved up my trip a bit. I hope to be in the area by the 16th and plan to spend anywhere from 5 to 10 days there. Can't wait.
