I was actually thinking about this the other day. There was a time when I got my money's worth and then some out of a AAA membership. Several tows a year. Actually I sold my first car to the tow driver for a scrap price, and he threw in the taxi fare for me to get home. Definitely different times we live in now. I think the last time I found myself in the breakdown lane was well over 10 years ago, for a simple flat tire...

Get that foil hat out, because now you're relating a Denso LPFP failure to that shit and GM's ignition barrel problem. You've lost the thread.

Same here. I've paid out of pocket for one tow in 25yrs. Money saved.

I've also grown very comfy with tire plugs (again).

You have done nothing but distort the point. Just like the hand flappers in the LPFP thread yesterday suggesting a conspiracy.

You just related this recall to Monsanto's RoundUp and J&J's BabyPowder.

    You're a walking Prop65 warning.

There's been no 'years' to this problem. Toyota initiated an investigation in July 2019. Found the problem and launched a recall. All posted on public websites.

I own and drive two air-cooled VW’s. Both have broken down away from home and one has gone for two rides on flatbed tow truck so for me a AAA membership is worth it LOL

Thanks for the link. I’ve had my 2020 for a month. Apparently mine is not part of the recall......yet.

I gotta put my geochemist hat on now.

The cancer cases from both examples you cite came from high volume users. Mostly people who use it commercially/obsessively. In the roundup case, the label has always said "do not expose to skin, do not inhale vapors." If you use it commercially, it is your job to read the SDS and apply the recommended PPE. Its a shame that most people dont make the connection that their life depends on reading the SDS, because if you are dealing with one thing in large volumes, it absolutely does. And the guys that were spraying gallons a day, not washing their hands before they ate, of course they got cancer. Its a sorry, sucky way to learn the lesson of wear your PPE when dealing with chemicals, but there it is. As a home user, you absolutely should look up the SDS for each bottle under your sink and on your garage shelf. Household cleaners especially, but also paints, pest control products, and automotive fluids. Its free, its easy to find, and its there to keep you safe. Use that resource.

The J&J case does fall on them for liability, but not out of malevolence. Terry the quarry manager doesnt scream "fuck the kids!" when loading haul trucks with talc. Non-metal mining is the industry I work in. Its a tricky industry. Talc, like a lot of sedimentary rock, is naturally intermixed with a lot of undesirables. Talc tends to deposit with minerals like like quartz (a.k.a respirable silica) and chrysotile (a.k.a asbestos). It is very, very easy for a mine that was extracting a zone of high purity to start extracting a zone that is not so high purity. It is the mine's responsibility to QC their feed pile before loading, but shit happens. Sometimes the mine lab guy doesn't recognize when his equipment is out of calibration. Sometimes they got a line of pissed off truckers that are about to go over their DOT mandated hours-of-service limits if they dont get loaded right the fuck now. Its stress and ignorance and a failure from people that are just trying to do their jobs. Whatever it is, nobody is sitting in their pinstripe suits with their cheshire grins and saying "fuck em if they get cancer, I got a new G5 to buy." That said, if your mine is going to be used for human consumption, you absolutely need to put more resources into your QC. And that is where they failed. Not because they knew they were peddling a nasty product.

LOL, this thread is hilarious. I work for a Toyota dealership and yes, JUST YESTERDAY, a new batch of VIN numbers was released. As for people saying why can they not release all of the numbers at one time? Well because can you imagine the chaos and pissed off people that would have to be told sorry, we don't have enough parts or techs or time slots to fix your vehicle. They try to release them in a strategic manner to not overwhelm the parts suppliers, PDC's, dealerships, and customers. If you are worried about your vehicle leaving you stranded because you can't tell if there is something starting to act funny before hand, and your on the list, then let your dealer know that and you can have a rental. It does say that in some form or another on your mailer. But this is no different that modding your vehicle. Every time you put of mod on your vehicle you run the risk that something negative "could" come from it. Toyota is one of the best companies out there when it comes to recalls. And I can guarantee you that they did not have enough proof of a failure to make a change before they did. NHTSA monitors everything Toyota does after the P90L "unintended acceleration" recall that was never found to be true but the media drug them through the dirt for a year before no proof was found and the real reason was found and they just magically forgot to tell people. So saying that they knew about it for 5 years is believing everything you read on the internet. If you believe that there is someone that has ocean front property in AZ. But yes, recalls are a good thing. They fix an issue that could "maybe" affect you one day most likely after warranty is over right away. The option would to be pull a GM and have an issue with a key/steering wheel lock and know about it for years and kill lots of people before being forced to fix it. Toyota has done recalls on clips that hold the kick panel in place because they had complaints that if you kicked the kick panel just right the panel "could" fall off and be in the way of the brake pedal. So they recalled the clips to put stronger, larger, longer clips in place. Believe me, they are taking care of more that what is necessary and not ignoring things for years.
