Anything can happen. A pair of flat tires could leave you stranded. It is the chance you take going into the middle of nowhere. It is "known" to happen. LOL

I get it, but doesn’t really make sense. Punishing the people notified later because they screwed up and didn’t figure out all the affected vehicles earlier. Had the new vehicles known last year, they would be on the list to get fixed or we like have been repaired. But oh well, just drive until they can fix it or it stops running I guess

Look Jeremiah Johnson, when people have concerns about being stranded, they are thinking about a wife or girl friend in the truck, kids in the truck, passing through an unsavory neighborhood... So just saying anything can happen, isn’t going to help if they put their family in a situation, knowing Toyota is telling them that there is a good chance this part will fail.

LOL none at all. :dancingbacon: I technically make less money selling recall parts than any other part, so as far as a paycheck. I guess I would be biased the other way. But being a Toyota Tacoma freak that I am, yes I am biased when it comes to rumors and false information being spread about a company I love. But that being said, I probably have less Toyota parts on my truck than I do upgraded aftermarket parts. So biased yes, but just biased against false information. :boink::headbang::cheers:

So what is this "good" chance of failure percentage then? I have yet to see any published percentage of failure on the issue. Because from what I can tell, the percentage of failure is less than getting a flat or even the damn rona. So if they are that worried they shouldn't be out driving through unsavory neighborhoods. We have yet to see one failure at our dealership. We did have one 2015 Tundra with a fuel pump issue. He was using farm fuel that had been in a tank for about 12 years at his best guess that he bought at an estate sale. That is the only fuel pump issue I have seen in 10 years that has been out of the ordinary. Everything else is old camry or corolla with 2-3 hundred thousand miles on them.

I'm sure a Mod could do some quick stats of posts in the 3rd Gen section since the recall was published. I believe that about three folks have reported failures in that time? There have been more reports of stumbles under high load though. That is a really good clue for the affected folks. This caused some problems with OVT's 2.0 rollout.

And just for reference, here is what we are talking about. Small, little pump that only appears somewhat unique to me because of the three leads versus the typical two:

Today’s cars and trucks are the most reliable they’ve ever been, especially Toyota’s which is probably the main reason we all bought Tacoma’s to begin with.

Things happen, if you’re that worried about you or a loved one getting stranded I suggest you take a Sharpie and right the 800 number for ToyotaCare on the dashboard :D

Agreed, but that requires a level of dexterity (writing numbers backwards so they can be seen in a mirror) most complainers don’t possess :D

Just my .02 cents, for whatever it's worth....
New Taco here, 2 months old, build date was 5-20' ... And of course this recall got my attention.
I've emailed the saleslady who i worked with about the recall, but as of yet no reply.
Anyway, being as it's new, my first thought was 'Oh boy .. Something I need to worry about with a brand new rig with only 1.8K on it?'
But from past experiences of factory recalls, I've learned this...
I still have a 95' Dodge B2500 van I bought new. About 2 years after I got it, there was a recall on it for the air-bags deploying for no reason. The reason they gave was the chance of moisture getting into the plug that hooks up to the computer that controls it.
Well, the computer box that controls that is under the drivers seat. I thought, that unless I go out of my way to dump a gallon of fluid on it, how is it ever gonna get wet? Or even moist? So I ignored the recall.
I will admit though, that whenever I had to install a new battery in the van, I unplugged the connector and sprayed contact-cleaner on it and reassembled .. Cheap insurance ...
Anyway, 25 years later, not a problem.
Now, when my 1st son went off to college, I bought him a 4 year-old Dodge Caravan. 50K on it. His university was 200 miles away.
Beginning of the new year (Aug) and the wife and I were following him (Help setting up his dorm and move stuff) and half way there, his van crapped out. Fuel pump went out. Had it towed to the nearest Dodge dealer. The service manager there told me 'Yeah, the fuel pumps in these rigs have a known problem .. Especially when it's really hot out..' .. But he also told me there was never a published 'recall' on a KNOWN problem (Them crossing their fingers, I guess..) It was one of those 'secret' service bulletin things where they don't send out notices, but if you came in with that particular prob, they took care of it. And that's what happened with us.
They paid to replace the fuel pump and also paid for the $200 towing bill also.
So, I guess it's better to have a 'recall', and while you may never ever need it, better to know the mfg. is at least trying to do The Right Thing .. Rather than not letting you know, but taking care of it after the fact.
So while you maybe start to worry about a prob that may never happen, at least you know it's a possibility.

Got legs, but no phone. Will never have one. I don't want an Electronic Leash. (I know, I'm a weirdo..)
I've survived since I first started driving in 1973, and I've always made it through just fine one way or the other .. And I've been through some pretty sketchy situations in the past ..

NO - We all bought a Toyota based on a “perceived” quality and reliability record. IMO Toyota lost that perception when they decided to become the biggest car company instead of the best. Everyone is welcome to keep drinking the Kool-Aid, but it won’t be long before the resale price for these trucks starts to dive.
