I’d say depends on your usage can’t go wrong either way you can alway regear if you mod the hell out of it. Just don’t get a auto if you get a 4wd 4cyl it’ll be gutless from the trucks I’ve rode in.

100% agree. My father had a 2013 auto 2.7, and my 5spd 2013 is definitely quicker/more ballsy (when it was stock, at least)

I bought a 2WD 2023 SR5 4 Cylinder and I live in Maine. I added a 300 lbs weight system in the bed this winter and I had no issues whatsoever. I don't tow anything and haul very little. I also don't care to drive 100 miles an hour. I had zero issues with my new Taco. I love the 4 Banger! ✔️

My first winter with mine I got 200 pounds of sand (needed in springtime anyway) and strapped them over the axle. Left them for several weeks and took them out, one day I had to drive in snow without them and no issues. Never went back..and we had that horrible winter a few years ago.

I grew up driving in Maine winters in a Chevy S10 with a sand bag in the bed. Never any issues. I also owned a Jeep Wrangler and never used the 4WD in the winter. My parents always had RWD vehicles and we all made it through the Maine winters.

I got my first truck in 2007 (Chevy Colorado 4x4) but had plenty of rear wheel drive cars prior that didn't have the electronic assists. Some were better than others, though being younger and probably not having great tires didn't help I'm sure haha.

I used the 4WD because I had it. When I didn't have the ballast in the Toyota that time and it was fine, I have gone without ever since.

I forget if y'all got it but that 2015 winter here in MA was awful..at least once a week we got a foot of snow. My Tacoma was perfect and I was driving an hour round trip to work.

    Sent you a PM
