My 21 Tacoma just got totaled and it's been a hell of a time getting a replacement. I have a deposit on a TRD Off Road 4x4 crew cab at the local dealer and I should get it hopefully by the end of august. I really want the technology package and the LED light package which this one doesn't have. It has the upgraded navigation and audio package which seems like a total waste to me.. Adding LED lights after the fact is about 1,300 but I really don't think there's a way to add the tech package. Should I hold out? Anyone else having trouble getting these options? I plan on keeping this one forever so I hate to settle for something I'm not happy with but at the same time I can't afford to hold out for too long.

Believe me I did. A lot of the dealerships will only sell to people that live nearby which I totally respect. I called every dealership in my local area. Half of them want above MSRP and the other ones you have to wait for what you want to be allocated. I hate to keep waiting for something that's not going to appear anytime soon

Get a Ram 1500 that's sitting on the lot collecting pollen it's full of technology. Drive it until the 2024s hit the lot, then trade it in.

I had to wait 4 months last year for my truck to come in. I had to have the MT and the LED lights. It was a tough 4 months, but worth the wait for me.

I say buy what you want. But don’t pay for what you don’t need.

I also say buy base so you can make your own upgrades. So, every is different

There’s a reason why they’re sitting on the lot collecting pollen.

That's why the guy drives it until he finds the Tacoma he wants.

Toyota sold 252,490 Tacomas last year, I'm sure some of those will make it to the used car lot for what ever reason. I doubt if 150,000 people will be looking for a previously owned Tacoma with in the next year. Plus what ever remaining 22's hit the market. Still have 23 and 24 model year new production runs.

Edit: you can buy a new Ram 1500 4x4 Monday for $45,000 no deposit, more hp, better mpg, more infotainment than a Tacoma technology package ice cold AC @ 0% APR. So what, it's not Toyota. I guess it all depends what the buyer is looking for.

I went through what you went through a month ago. Given the market you do need to compromise otherwise you’ll either overpay or wait months.

My 2010 Pre-runner DCLB TRD Sport was totaled after being rear ended by an uninsured idiot. I originally was looking for a TRD Sport DCLB but it would have been a 2 month wait and I would have had to pay $50k for it due to “market adjustments”. I went with a SR5 after considering what I could live and live without. And honestly, I couldn’t be happier with what I got!!

I got the options I really needed, and best part is I didn’t overpay. Saved $13k which I have since put some towards upgrades that I add myself.

Tech package probably pays for itself through discounts on insurance

I live outside boston. I'm looking for the TRD Off Road 4x4 crew cab. As far as options go I just want the technology package and the LED light package.

Does the Ram 1500 really have better mpg? I'm sure the EcoDiesel does. From what I've read the 5.7 L Hemi and the 8-speed transmission are pretty reliable.

I think the TRD off road is the way to go. But a lot of people don't want all the Electronics and nanny functions. I can see why people would want to start with a base model and add lockers later. The stock Locker only works in 4 low. I don't plan on doing heavy off-roading mainly because I can't afford to treat a $45,000 truck like a toy.

I think it was a 3.6 with the 8spd and the mpgs might be about the same. I don't really like Ram 1/2 tons. Just comparing prices, and if the dealers have them and someone is in need of truck.
