FYI - I had a 17' Fish n Ski boat for a few years. Boat and trailer weighed 2800-3000lb. My 2006 Prerunner with the Tow Package had no problem launching and getting it out of the water.

    BUT you have 1500lb more???

That’s not ideal but the locker can help you get traction.
Just be smart, don’t do it at low tide or make sure someone is there to pull you up if need be.
Second gen is actually going to be slightly better for this stuff than third gen because if more low end torque. Which you need on a ramp, very different from high way towing

If you try it and it doesn’t go well, the first thing I would do is delete this thread. I think insurance companies have been known to look at stuff like this.

My taco pulls my 2800lbs of boat out of the water with ease but your boat is much bigger,,I just dont know what the point of no return is (weight wise). Be careful if you try it.

This will work out fine. I used to launch and retrieve my FIL's boat with his 2WD Dakota....many times. Never a big issue. Trailer, boat and gear were easily 3500+ lbs. If that gutless fuck could do it, I know a 1GR powered Taco with the same traction could.

Like I said...turn on the LSD. That will turn off the traction control. It may sound counter intuitive....but TC will not help you in that situation

I have a tenner that says he launches his Tacoma at the same time as a boat. Sorry, I struggle just with a drift boat on steep put ins. And I'm a 4cyl 4x4 manual.

Hell yes your truck will pull your boat and trailer out of the water and up the launch ramp no sweat. You intentionally go slow and you hardly know you have a boat behind you. My boat weighs 3500 lbs and no problem. I pulled a friends boat that weighs about 5000 lbs, and up the launch ramp again it was no problem.
I have 4WD but only need it on slippery, icy or dirt launch ramps.
Those people who launch their trucks , it’s not anything to do with the truck, it’s driver error.

It's not the size of the boat nor the motion in the ocean, it's whether or not the captain can stay in port long enough for all the passengers to get off :notsure:

Some of you severely underestimate what a 2wd can do. Not sure if that's due to lack of experience or talent.

I've pulled a 3000+ lb boat my entire life with either my Pre-Runner or an old 6 cyl 2wd dodge. Never ever had any problems. Only had to use the locker once that I recall, and that was due to the ramp being cover in mud.

Size of the boat plays in, but more important is the steepness of the ramp, tidal water, ramp material.

A steep ramp takes more power to get up(bad as your at the max weight of the truck) but also means you dont need to put the trailer as far in the water. Getting your drive tires wet or on slippery ground is not ideal.
Tidal areas mean if your retreating at low tide you very well could be on slippery ramp till you get to the high tide line. Would suck to easily launch at high tide, only to find the ramp to slick at retrieval time and you need to wait for the tide to come back in.
The material of the ramp can play a big difference. I've launched at many natural ramps. At these it can get muddy depending on the ground material. These are usually much more shallow so you need to get the truck out in the water to get the boat to float. Some ramps are concrete with traction grooves cut in the ramp, but these seem rare from the places I have been.

You can likely do.it, but a screw up can be big $.

More importantly will it recover your boat and haul it up the boat launch.

NO,get a full size truck, even a 4x4 taco is not going to do anything more than what you already have.
