I tow my 19 foot Boston Whaler boat with trailer and engine and fuel and typcal load the tow weight is between 3500 and 4000 pounds. Plus I usually have the capper loaded with camping, vacation and SCUBA gear and then two kayaks up top:

We have towed to Florida (from Kansas) and many other long trips with no difficulty at all. The Taco tows just fine. However, the truck has LT265X65X16 LRC tires. I would expect that with those huge tires, your truck will not be so happy and your boat is nearly a 1000 pounds more, so not sure. For local tows it will be okay, for towing long distance maybe not so good a deal.

Try it. If it sucks, invest in gears. Then it will tow fine.

You made the truck look real pretty with the lift, zillion lights and big tires but you ruined it for towing. With the size of the tires and the oem gears you are going to stress the drive train. Specifically the engine and especially the transmission. Towing with 35’s it’s going to be pretty gutless. And climbing up hills and in the mountains especially in hot weather the tranny fluid will have a short life span.
I don’t know what type of boat it is but most 23’ boats, trailer and engines plus equipment and fuel will weigh more than 4300 lbs. you are estimating 300lbs for the engine but the size outboard that will push around a 23’ boat will probably weigh a lot more than 300 lbs.
Yeh you can tow it but expect problems to arise.

In the Jeep world, my Rubicon with Dana 44 axles and dual lockers, I installed high strength aftermarket half shafts (USA made super strong) so that I could not reasonably twist them off with my 33X12.5X15 tires in heavy going. I could not imagine that a Taco, nice as they are, would have axles up to turning 35 inch plus tires with stock axle shafts? Having been inside both, the Taco axles are good quality for what they are but they are no way equal to what I see most off roaders in Jeeps running with that size wheel and tire. Hook the trailer tires in a blowout and twist the axles off. Could result in needing a periscope.

Of course it will tow it, you have tow mirrors. Seriously though don't do it in overdrive, you will blow your transmission. I have an 18' bay boat that I pull all the time and sometimes pretty far and never tow in OD with 33's and stock gears and it does fine. I pulled my brother in laws 23' bay boat down the road to the shop one day and can't imagine doing it all the time.

    This.

I get why people mod trucks to the high heavens for looks... but it ruins the function of the truck.

Have 1 truck to look pretty and get another for truck work.

I would not take your truck onto a boat ramp.

Buy a vehicle that is meant for the job?

I bought a 95 F350 CCLB 4x4 turbo diesel to do my heavy towing.

Hauling over 12000lbs and getting 14mpg is nice with 35's mounted and a 4in lift, Priceless

    12,000lbs?

A Ford F150 can do that.

You get an F350 Diesel for 35,000lb tow jobs!

    Not in the mountains.

There was a good episode of Top Gear (American version) where they compared one ton pickups. They compared the Dodge and Chevy 3500s to the Ford F450. The 450 was pretty much even with the other two.

I do agree with having a second rig for heavy hauling. Here's a pic of bringing the horses out of the Bob Marshall Wilderness a bunch of years ago.

With 35s and stock gearing taking off is going to be a problem. As for stopping, a trailer of that weight should have brakes.

Yeah, my point was that the F350 didn't compare with the others and they had to use the 450 to keep pace with the other makes.

Are there brakes on the trailer? If not you'll want to plan your stops pretty far in advance.
Your truck will tow it, but don't expect to hold speed on hills. You'll want to keep an eye on your speed, too, because that close to your weight limit the trailer may have a tendency to push you around a bit in a crosswind, down hills, etc. so you'll want to hold your speed down to where you can correct it easily. Keep it out of OD and keep an eye on your tranny temps.
I'd also recommend 4-lo on the ramps, FWIW. The extra torque multiplication will make hauling that lump out of the water a lot easier on your truck.

OBS is a great older style but its harsh ride is a sacrifice compared to newer models.

    A F150 can get the 14 MPG towing 12k lbs ?

Not sure. Its turbocharged so maybe.

Maybe if you tow long distances that matters. I personally don’t care. But my tows are usually under 50 miles and the trucks have 36+ gallon tanks.

You will be fine towing it. Hopefully you have trailer brakes like mentioned from previous posts. I tow a 27ft camper weighing 5,025lb dry. I also invested in installing air bags, which has helped a lot. My Scan Gauge is also helpful to let me know what my transmission temp is at.5025lb dry weight.jpg
