I haul my 9-0 on short trips to the beach in the bed. Long trips, it’s up on the roof racks

You don't want to go overboard so to speak. No sense in having a 2x12 when there's only room for a 2x3

    Put something under the nose
The beds are hard and they get dinged up

If you have no interest in a roof rack or tailgate extender and want something that can be easily stored if not used, I would look into an aluminum Thule TracRac that bolts onto the OEM rails. Having bed cargo space is a big bonus versus transporting in a bed.

while we're at it ... I guess I'd just get a shell ... then you can slide into the bed or put on top ...

Mods are currently being changed .....
I put my 9' in the bed of my dcsb before I got my prinsu rack and now I throw it up top w/ bungees.... I used a tailgate pad w/ a strap over the board and never had an issue. Run it corner to corner and you'll be fine.
