If your '97 is a 6-lug, then yes!

    he's got a 4x4, which is 6lug. Yep, they'll fit.

Backspacing might be a little weird though, I don't remember which is which off the top of my head.

All the taco 4x4's non 6cyl came with 2.7 3rz and 6 lugs....

2nd and 3rd gen wheels are offset several inches inward toward the body.....making turning clearance an issue and some rub the UCA....

4" ?? There's a bunch of threads in here for this.....just got to poke around....

The difference in offset is 15mm, not several inches.

The 2nd/3rd gen wheels are usually +30mm offset which puts them closer to your frame and suspension. With stock size tires it seems most people don't have any trouble, maybe a slight rub at full lock. If you are going to want wider tires I would stick to the lower offset 1st gen wheels. There are some newer TRD FJ/4Runner 17" wheels that have the same +15mm offset.

This thread has some good info in it.

Here are TRD Off-road that I dropped into my ‘95 4WD. They fit great. No lift.

Looking for rims for my 1995 4x4, V6/5 speed

What I am seeing available are the 17" wheels out there. I have stock alloys that are a nice looking rim, but mine are horrible looking and need replaced. They have 31x10.50's as stock size.

What will keep me close to this in my truck? I am thinking a 245/70 or 75/17 should be close on each side of the height spectrum.

What should I try to limit my height to with my powertrain combo?

Looking at the link above ATM to learn more.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I wouldn’t worry about power, I’d worry about if you go too big how much fender, pinch weld you’re going to have to cut.

Personal opinion only 15” wheels look good on 1st gens.

It'll fit. I have the manual hubs on my truck.

I don't have manual hubs on my truck and I'm not sure yet if the front is locking in yet. Does the engine need to be running for vacuum maybe? I know its a little off subject. I had the front end up and I could spin a wheen with the transfer case in 4WD.

We have a lot to do yet before truly testing the operation of the hubs. We had to do massive cleanup as the mid owner let it sit with a few holes above the drivers side of the windshield and the DS carpet was soaked, where water would squish up when you put your finger down into it. There was 3 holes in the floorboard. I heavy wire wheeled all the rust up, ospho'd it all and fiberglassed it all up with etching primer and rustoleum. Then laid down new sound deadener in the front which was all hardened up. Both the brake pedal and clutch pedal assemblies were rusted so bad, we need to replace them both due to the water leak. There was mold on the door panels, headliner and seats. Deep cleaning with vinegar was done and then a super saturation with an ozone generator for over an hour closed up. The motor has an issue with getting over 2200 rpm's also. Water was almost empty, and I see water very slowly dripping off the front of the oil pan, so water pump is suspected. I have in route an Aisen timing belt kit and crank and cam seals, denso crank sensor and standard cam sensor. T-stat, rad cap, plugs, air and fuel filter also in route. I did a full synthetic oil change with oem filter (the only thing I use on my Hondas and any Totota). The tires are old and have been sitting for over a year, with a year before that even if not longer. There was some shaking in the truck when I drove it a year ago and I suspect it was the tires. My son and I checked the ball joints and C-arm bushings and tie rod ends all looked good. We will probably do a front end rebuild in a year or two down the road. This will not be a daily driver, but a fun time truck. I did have the truck up on all 4 corners yesterday to pressure wash the underside. I was so please to see how clean it was and I felt inside the frame as I have heard these trucks had an issue with the frame rotting from the inside. Every hole I could get my finger into was perfectly smooth with what I suspect is factory paint.

I'm really thinking about having these wheels sand blasted and powder coated. We both really like the looks of them, it's just that these are so nasty from brake dust sitting on them for so long.

PS... I bought this truck some 22 years ago and sold it to my neighbor 18 years ago. Sadly, he passed away - denying to sell it to many people including my son. He willed to me a 1965 Chevy II Nova SS V8 car (very sweet AZ car). His neice got everything else, and she gave me the truck back! My son is estatic, as me, my wife, 2 sons and 2 dogs moved and drove to S GA from NY in 2004 in the cab of this truck!

    Thanks much for the replies!
