    Ive pulled 4000+ pounds of cargo through some gnarly hills, I never had an issue like that.

    Based on your account I can think of four possibilities:

    A) The truck will sometimes cut power if it senses wheel slip. The locker should have put a stop to it, but I'd try turning off trac control as well.
    B) There is something horribly wrong with either a sensor or the transmission.
    C) Your bilge is so full of water that youre towing half the lake behind you.
    D) Are the brakes/wheels siezed on your trailer?

    That sucks you had multiple issues. The thing that concerns me is that usually if its truly too much weight (no wheel slip/dry pavement) my truck would still attempt to move but do that jumping bull bucking motion, not cut power. I'd say something interfering in an odd way like trac control or something is up.

    boat trailer brakes were not locked up pulls it fine on level terrain! Yes I think traction control kicking in and cutting power, so on the 3rd attempt i smoked the tires all the way up the drive to get it out!! i just disappointed this my taco is not able to pull this size boat ! if it was a 30' offshore boat i would understand

    I have pulled my boat which is a 23' wakeboat and an ice castle with my tacoma and had no issues beside getting stuck in mud since we don't have a concrete ramp. We snapped a cable for winch on a ranger trying to pull it out :ballchain:

    Did the engine rev when you gave it gas on the first and second try? Or did it kinda just act bogged down?

    Trac is not cutting in if you are smoking the tires.

    Could there be something physically preventing to the truck from pulling the boat. Perhaps brakes are still applied, wheel chocks not removed?

    Sounds like traction control was getting the best of you on the first couple of tries. The last try was without TC on and you smoked the tires up the driveway.

    I have never owned a 2WD truck, and only could imagine it would suck in these conditions.

    So some suggestions and questions:

    -tongue weight of trailer? This could be a problem. You may need a little more weight over the rear axle. Home Depot has 60 lb sandbags for cheap. Buy two (one for each wheel well) and try again with TC off.

    -Install better tires.

    -grade and lay down some good rock in that driveway. My driveway is 7% grade with crushed concrete. With a few inches of snow, my Lexus IS350 won’t make it with snow tires. (RWD)

    I was thinking the same thing, and just brain storming here....
    1) A gallon of gas weighs just over 6 lbs. So even with a full tank you'd still be under the tow capacity;
    2) Boat full of water;
    3) Possibly something with the trailer brakes. Could there be something in the trailer brake system that detects a certain angle and locks the brakes? Seems doubtful as most boat ramps are at an angle.
    4) Are the brakes electronic? Possibly something wrong with them.

    It does not sound normal at all. You could try adding some sandbags over the rear axles to help gain some traction.

    hey friend. When you accelerate are you flooring it or you being very ginger on the pedal? If you floor it, you could be breaking traction and the truck is preventing the wheels from slipping, put some weight in the back over the trucks rear axle and try again.
