That is just sad and painful to watch... I can't read the sticker but I think it says off-road which means no hill-assist, but still. Why wouldn't you use the handbrake to hold the truck while letting off the clutch? I've had 5k lbs+ total between the bed and trailer and have never had issues even in 2wd. The road to my house is a sharp s-turn with probably a 9-12% grade and very narrow. I have had to stop in the middle while towing to let descending vehicles by and had no issues.

Regarding the OP, I suspect you have trailer brake issues, or wheel spin before you disengaged TC or engaged the locker. You may not have thought you were spinning the tires on your first two (?) tries, but the computer probably thought you were and traction control cut power. If I understand correctly you said the engine quit, which isn't normal, but under extreme circumstances I imagine it *could* happen. Good call on bringing it to the dealer. Better yet, if you can bring the boat and find a hill to simulate the issue they may be more helpful.

@Rilo2448 do you have any friends with a tacoma that you could hook your boat/trailer up to and see if they are having the same issue. You could then isolate it if it is a truck problem or a trailer problem.

I didn't see if you said you have any dash lights. If I stop on a steep hill and try to start again, sometimes the slight roll back engages the hill assist and everything goes screwy for a bit. Throttle is cut as well. This happens in my 4R too, not just a Tacoma issue.

I'm guessing there's another hill leading up to his driveway, maybe the poor guy couldn't get home to respond .:boink::bananadead:

His John Force style boat ramp burnouts take their toll on tires, and there's only one spare...

Judging by the thread, if he still has his boat attached, he won't go far...
