Hello everyone! I signed paperwork to have a quick sand Tacoma with the TRD sport package delivered to me with the manual tranny. I have wanted a manual truck my entire life, I finally convinced myself I can live without a full-size so I traded in

I am shopping to upgrade from the factory tires to all-terrain's, and I think the Procomp 7089 would look really nice. I'm a little old-fashioned in that I like as much meat as I can get. I'm considering dropping down to 16 inch rims to make this happen. When I was talking to the shop (four wheel parts) One guy said they would fit in another guy said they would not clear the caliper. Does anyone know for sure?
Edit - i want 265/75/16 tires on them

    6x5.5
    0 offset

I have been reading a bunch of threats but if anyone has suggestions on items to read or things to do to the vehicle, I would love your input!

Anyone know if 16" aftermarket rims clear the caliper?

The off-road comes with 16s and I’ve heard the sport doesn’t have different brakes. So you should be good.

Thanks, that was my logic too. That is what I am hoping turns out to be true.

A 16x8 wheel with a 0mm offset will fit the Tacoma. Compared to TRD pro or TRD OR wheels (no idea about sport model), the offset is a little more aggressive (IE - wheel sticks out farther), but the wheels are still within the fenderwells and looks great.

This is an extremely common wheel size people go with for aftermarket wheels.

I have not heard about any issues with caliper clearance, in fact, IIRC the lower the offset, the further away the spokes get from the hub/caliper (IE - more clearance). I suggest 265/75/16 for a bit of an upgrade while maintaining stock drivability and retaining stock suspension. If you do a "lift", the 285/75/16 has awesome looks and ground clearance while taking a slight drivability and MPG hit.

Depends.....i had them on my second gen. Same brakes. There are 2 different castings though. The difference is on the inside of those rims. One fits, the other rubs the caliper. Ran into this issue with a replacement. Unfortunately I don't have pics anymore as it was a few years ago. You got a 50/50 shot. Go up to 17s and you're gtg either way. Hope that helps

Here's an old thread of mine on ttora. Maybe it can shed some additional light . Not sure why that link won't post correctly but just copy paste the while thing should work

Id love to see that - but if you were trying to send a link it didnt work. I will give it a search!

Edit - Found it. Mine are def 4.5 backspacing, but I dont really know how to tell otherwise if they are the "old" model.

Unfortunately it's a shot in the dark. The newer castings are most likely a no go

But that doesn't mean the machining, clearances and spacing between the hub, rotor, mounting surface, etc are the same between the 2nd gen or 3rd gen even if using the same caliper unit. (they may be, not sure tho)

I'm *pretty sure the lower offset than stock wheels will actually help clear the caliper and avoid rubbing on UCA or other stuff in the fenderwell. Unless the spokes have some funky design? Decreasing the offset is why people run spacers to clear bigger tires and avoid rubbing.

Going up to a 17" wheel will have nothing to do with the fitment. It's all about width, coupled with offset/backspacing. Only reason going up in diameter is necessary is if fitting big brake kits with huge rotors.

I would be very surprised if a 16x8 et 0 wheel did not fit his tacoma.

    I understand what your saying...

Rotor diameter and hub to rotor distance might be different and a factor. I'd be surprised if it was.

I've seen a few 2nd Gens TRDs sporting the 3rd Gen Off road wheel, so...

Only one to be sure is find a 3rd Gen that has them or contact Procomp. Maybe you could convince them to send a caliper clearance template. Or, you send them a template for confirmation.
