I was 100% wrong about that. Gave Toyota the benefit of the doubt that they didn't design a critical flaw into the engines. Now let's go to Hybrids + Seqouias next.

Good on Toyota for voluntarily recalling 100000 trucks and replacing engines without a class action lawsuit to make them do it.

Toyota mechanics are gonna be making some $$$!

Hopefully, my comment didn’t come across as Told you so. Meant it more as a well I didn't expect that. Haha. Text doesn’t translate tone very well. Don’t think you took it that way but just making sure.

Rear leaf suspension. Home done tailgate re-inforcement.
When the 4.0 came out in 05, I bought one and it wasn't long before we were finding out that the engine had a weak head gasket between cylinders 4 & 6.

They tended to give it up at about 140/50 K miles. Toyota corrected the problem in mid to late 06, but never stood behind the 05's. The repair is about $3000 and it is extensive.

I still have the 05 at 152K miles and I have been replacing the coolant on a regular basis in the hopes that fresh stuff may delay what will most likely be.

I have studied the repair procedure and possibly may get into it myself as others have done. If it is done correctly, the savings are nearly $2K. At this time my fear is that there are only few technicians at dealerships that have ever done the job and are familiar with the subtle nuances involved with the fix. It is no longer a shade tree six pack of beer job on a Sunday afternoon.

So for all of you that have jumped into a first year model change truck like I did, I truly wish you the best of luck and hope Toyota decides to stand behind all and any shortcomings if they are there.

Well, the NHTA made them do it. Period the end. It’s a forced “safety” recall done in a manner where Toyota saves face.
