To add to the confusion mine was made in japan. Will have to double check the vin but think it's shizoka. Alot of the labels have kanji writing on it.

Pre Tacoma model. Probably was produced in Japan. Does the vin # start with a J?

The criteria for "classic" in FL is 20 years... I had an antique tag on my 1991 SHO in 2012.

Well....I should say mostly built in Japan . In order to get around the "Chicken Tax" Toyota produced the beds at Toyota Auto Body of California (TABC) in Long Beach. Once the cab/chassis was shipped over TABC installed the bed, taillights and a few other components so the final assembly point would officially be in the USA....avoiding the 25% tariffs imposed on imported trucks in the 1960's.

By '89 Toyota was beginning to produce trucks at NUMMI and fewer Japanese trucks were imported to avoid the tariffs

Thanks to NAFTA it became profitable for Toyota to produce trucks in Mexico. TMMBC was formed around 2002 to supplement NUMMI. When GM pulled out of NUMMI around 2009, Toyota shifted all Tacoma production to Mexico and the the Tundra plant.

My Sienna is a classic this year so that's not saying much.
