I am not from Cali but I am sure permit is required to cut in certain areas depends on their permit details such as cut up to 10 cords, something like that.

Wonder how long before a gas chainsaw is illegal in Cali?

We have 4 NF’s nearby in SoCal where personal firewood cutting is permitted. No large scale timber cutting though. 10 cords/year per household at one of them and 5 cords at the others. Wood has to be down.

Same here on the OP. 10 cords per year for personal use, and the permit is free. I just went and grabbed a couple yesterday. I usually only put saws and tools in the bed though. Tacoma is too small to haul a worthwhile load, so I put the logs on my trailer.

Only restrictions here are spark arrestors on saws, wood has to be down, and within 100’ if road. Burn bans are rare here. Technically no winching, but I and everyone else do it all the time and nobody cares.

Cut a long round, put 2 large nails with 1 washer each in the ends with some space to get a hook under the washer so it spins, and set up a harness with 2 hooks on a chain and a spreader bar to hold them apart and use it to pull the rounds by rolling - no skid trail and no mess. I used a pulley on my buddy’s truck and a long long rope rope tied off to mine to roll the rounds back up to the road from a deep gully. And if you leave a long enough tail on the end of the rope beyond the rounds, you can get a ride up the hill and steer the round while it rolls- then you have a a rope belay to go back down for more.

    Holy Moly!

    That's insane.

I would personally do the trailer thing like that other guy did...except, I don't believe my Sport would struggle pulling a trailer.

probably be ok. I put a cinder block back there once, forgot about it and drove normally taking turns, braking accel'ing...and it put a hole in the bed. not sure about a wooden block, not as heavy/massive so maybe not. these beds aren't the toughest

You can’t hurt it hauling wood. I’ve hauled many loads. I do have a bed mat.

This gives me a new perspective on the meaning of the classic tongue twister:

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

well, lol, might be a little deceptive...my "normal driving" is a little...rough. oh and it was a half cinder block, not the full sized ones. yeah I was a little surprised too. It wasn't a hug gaping hole, but it was a hole. damn weight reduction methods. definitely add some sort of thicker lining, not sure if just a rhino line would cut it, the bed is basically just fiber glass. don't quote me on that but it sure seemed like that's what it was. of course it was the only thing in there and slide around quite a few times. dented the metal supports by the tailgate too

My dad would cut the firewood and my job way to neatly stack the wood in the back of the truck. Ya get more in there, believe it or not, and its easier to unload.
