Really, that’s because the MT should be mated to both. It is not an inconsistent request.

This subject compares to what the newer Machine Shop tools, such as Lathes and Milling Machines have become.
Gears are expensive to manufacture so the shift has been to put a Frequency control on an Electric Motor and a simple 2 speed transmission for Hi and Low. Very few gears.
I used to swear I would never have an Auto tranny in a Truck, but after driving a few with the newer Auto trans, I'm liking them.

Ah, but we have the 2lo mod which solves that problem! However, stock I agree. I towed a trailer with tile for my home remodel the very first day I picked up my Tacoma and I couldn’t back it all the way up my driveway. I thought it was me— because it was my first day behind the wheel. Found out later that it was the unusually high reverse. 2lo mod and fixed!

With the tall R gear ratio in the taco, without the mod you got no choice but to ride the clutch. Obviously only happens when reversing a trailer up hill, or just reversing up a very steep driveway for example. My ranger was a bit better but still could go like 50 miles an hour in reverse. I have no clue why it comes stock like that. Gear storage? I don’t know.

I think they should only offer the MT with a 5 cylinder. Kinda meet everyone in the middle.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Every modern (less than 20 years old) manual transmission vehicle I've driven requires you to push the clutch in to start it. That's a very reasonable safety feature that keeps you from starting it in gear.

Porsche, Subaru, Jeep, BMW, Ford, Toyota and other manufacturers still sell old school, 3-pedal manuals. Do any of them offer a remote start? Do any of them offer a push button to start the vehicle without having the clutch in?

Why is push button start so important to people? I kinda like a key start but sure, to each their own.

So what is the 2 LO Mod. Aren't all of the 4x4 Toyotas equipped with a 2 speed Transfer Case?

It’s allows you to go into low range in 2WD, so you have the torque and can still steer on a boat ramp etc without wind-up.

I guess leaving your keys in your pocket is nice. But hardly a deal-breaker in my mind.

I've had mine for a month and had the same concern. But I could not live with a 5' bed witht he things I wanted to do with it.

Happy to report is doesn't feel anywhere near as big as I thought it would, I have pulled a few u-turns and have made most of them without needing a 3-point turn, and parking has been "OK", but I haven't been in any tight spots yet either.

I'm happy with it. No regrets.

Yes, but from factory that 2 speed transfer case powers front and rear axles.

My reference was to remote starters, the aftermarket has had them for years and they work incredibly well.
