I've got a few friends who have lost all their shit from the storm, general consensus is insurance wont allow buy backs, Louisiana apparently had laws changed due to past storms. Yes, it's mostly freshwater, but what about all the waste water mixed in? I wouldn't want to chase down all those possible future problems either. I beleive a certification of destruction is handed out http://web01.dps.louisiana.gov/omv1...52bcd0bd3aba0b30862564c0005485b6?OpenDocument

most i mportantly, I'm glad you and your family are safe and sound. The house is going to be a project, and not that my opinion matters much, but I would want the truck totaled. Once a vehicle sits in water for any length of time there are just to many things that can arise a year or two down the road that you don't want. My good friend Rich just got shipped out to your area. He works for FEMA, I hope he gets your case. He is a good man, with his heart in the right place. Sucks that you have to go through this

That sucks, man. I had an inch of water in my basement and it was a huge ordeal. I can't imagine this much water. Glad everyone is okay.

That sucks man, hopefully you have some GAP coverage. I'm thinking that will help you out right about now. My guess is total loss... 90% chance.

I was leaving at 3 in the morning but was woken up by my neighbor at 1 telling me the water was comming up fast, at that time the water was already 3 ft deep in the road. Water wasn't suppose to come to my area until the next morning, thought I had planned far enough ahead. As others have said I want them to total the truck, I have gap and don't want to fight water related problems for the life of the truck

Update: my neighbor boated in today and said the water line was at my front drivers side door handle. Quick question, I already talked to ins company and they said I can roll it out of the way of my garage door if I want to. If I turn the key to the on position (not starting it) and nothing happens electronic will I be able to put it in nutral to push it

    all tore up already
If not there will be a neutral shift release somewhere near the shifter. Look for a small cover usually about .75"x.25". Pop the cover off, stick your key in there and shift to neutral. I have a MT or id go look for it. Sorry to hear nick, glad you are safe and hope insurance totals your vehicle and takes care of you. Promise you dont want to deal with a flood vehicle's ghost issues.

Edit:not a 16 tacoma, but gives you an idea what to look for04shifttoneutral.jpg

My grandparents just went through this, lost their house, their car, clothing, all of their old photos everything. Just like you said the water came up within hours with almost no warning. Didn't have flood insurance; not much money to live on as it is. Their place was on a reservoir in central/west TX that hasn't been full for most of the 50 years they lived there. Usually they're praying for rain. Well they got it for weeks on end... the water came way up over the spillway and the flood gates on the dam hadn't been operated in over 40 years; were rusted shut. For awhile they thought the dam might bust as the water was cascading over the top of it. It did wash out the highway just on the other side of the dam. Supposedly over 50 years ago when the properties were marked for building, the surveyor marked spots above the spillway, but rumor is he was an alcoholic and provided bad info. Half or more of the homeowners on the lake lost their places. Ugly stuff man. Sorry you're going through it. Sometimes you don't realize how bad folks have it until something like this hits close to home. Sending thoughts and prayers your way.

Avoid energizing the system, use the shift lock like @brich999 pointed out

That's horrible. I hope your grandparents came out ok in the end, I can't imagine what I would do without ins. That's why I'm not really concerned about the house, family picture and keepsakes from my son were in the top of a closet so they were safe. House is well insured and can be fixed truck on the other hand while well insured trying to fix that would be a nightmare not to mention it will be retitled as a water damaged vehicle.... try selling that! I want it totaled

If somehow the system is energized and frags itself...well I guess that puts you one step closer to total loss.
