Op I hate this happened to you... Hope everything goes smooth for the next while trying to replace and repair everything.

Dumb question, but the cab is not watertight, correct? I know I had my cab half in a water hole for a few hours and had water seeping up from the bottom. I assume after days water would be seeped into everything.

Other dumb question - would a snorkel have protected any engine components?

No, fuse boxes and electrical components aren't fully sealed. Not saying they can't survive some water but they are pretty much one of the weak links. Of course a intake full of water isn't any better

I don't think a snorkle would have helped because it will go up the exhaust pipe I think since the motor isn't running

    Most definitely totalled.

On the plus side, if you can dry it out completly, it will be a great vehicle to buy back from insurance company. Once water recedes, drain the crankcase until oil comes out. insert plug, tighten then try to start. Oil floats on water, so once water is out, all that is Left is oil. To be double safe, remove plugs and crank engine to expel aNY water in cylinder heads.

So your saying the water will go up the tailpipe into the crankcase even if the air cleaner is out of water?

    Yes it can.

Do not start it unless you are sure no water is in the combustion chambers.

Look up hydro locking an engine.

Bad things can happen when water is inside an engine. Do the next owner a favor, let them have your totaled truck without bent connecting rods.

I agree, it will be the prize pig at the junkyard... lots of good parts. After katrina la passed a bunch of laws about selling water damaged cars so more than likey it will wind up in one

New Navigation DVD/CD/TV/AV/Bluetooth Stereo and seat mod spacers, 1" hubcentric spacers, seat heaters....
I would have put the truck up on 24" blocks the night before just to be safe...bummer, if the water got up to dashboard level they will total it....if properly dried out (basically taking the whole dang truck apart) if will come to life again..but the cost would be prohibitive for a third party (Toyota or...?)to do the deed...buy back and months of work drying and cleaning by a private party, ain't worth the trouble unless the buyback is super cheap, even then it will be a salvage title...

Definitely a total, you will be driving a new, dry replacement 2016 soon if your insurance doesn't Richard you around..

Given the circumstances I personally would not even have considered a thought to putting my truck on blocks.

Then again, it doesn't even make my top 10 list of things I care about in a life threatening scenario.
