Yes, your powertrain warranty will be voided due to drilling holes in your dash.
With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the 2020s, why do you need to mount your phone? Yes, you need to plug it in when you get in, but is drilling holes in your dash and having an ugly phone mount really better? If you’re just looking to make/receive calls while driving, just connect via Bluetooth and it doesn’t need to be mounted. If you need GPS or other things, using CarPlay or Android auto is the better option.
It takes 1 second to plug the phone in and your done. This is the 21st century, unless your an a Uber driver, get rid of the phone mount.

Yeah but if he doesn’t drill into anything and a few months later his radio dies or has that resetting problem the dealer can 100% blame it on the install and deny warranty. Similar thing happened to me.

This is why you shouldn’t drill in to your dash. Especially for a phone mount, what does that add, 10hp, maybe 12hp if you’re lucky.
There’s always the warranty gamble with tunes, but at least with a tune you’re getting performance gains in return for the risk.
Seriously, you’re willing to drill in to your dash just so you can put your phone closer? If you really feel a need to put your phone there, just Velcro it and call it a day.

Exactly. If you are worried at all about a warranty don’t touch the truck with mods you can’t easily reverse.

Side note Hondo Garage makes a really nice one that attaches to a vent. No drilling required. Works really well.

I worked 2 auto groups installing factory accessories and I can probably count on one hand how many times we actually refused to warranty something due to someone having installed something themselves. Unless it was physical damage, or something that we had proof of, we pretty much would warranty everything, or get it warrantied. A lot of it is all how you word and document the claim to the manufacturer. Sometimes they would kick back claims and you either have to resubmit it or they needed further proof. If not then we’ve have to eat it.

Also it’s unwise for anyone to come in and be a douchebag, or blatantly try and cover something up that they know won’t be covered under warranty but try anyway. That won’t help your case, nor will it help you at all in the future.

Finally some dealers and employees are just scumbags. A lot of service writers get big bonus on their monthly numbers so denying warranty and trying to get the customer to pay for it will equal more money to them. Some techs do the same. But they lose out on stuff too because some people won’t pay if it’s not in warranty. So if you ran into a service writer like that, find a different one or a completely different dealership.

Maybe I just had a bad dealer. I don’t know. They denied my warrant even though it was a known issue. They said I modified something that I didn’t even touch. I did have a mod in the vicinity, but not the part I was trying to get warrantied. If I broke something or was the cause of the problem there is no way I’d try to get it warrantied.

I tried the corporate route they told me to get stuffed as they take the dealers word over the customers.

Only payback I had was to refinance my truck from Toyota to my bank and try to steer as many people away from that dealer that I can. Definitely cost them more than replacing the part I was trying to warranty.

I figured if corporate also denied me then so would any other dealer since I’m sure my claim was in some system already.

that blows! Why must they be so shady. If only they were sensible, we wouldn't be in these situations. So were you able to get a different warranty after the fact?

Find a replacement dash piece on ebay and swap it out if you need to warrantee something.
I love my Expedition Essentials and couldn't live without it.

How does it do with shaking doing vibration at higher speed or rough roads?

the Taco Garage bar has zero give or movement. So any vibrations has more to do with which mount you use. That’s one of the great things about the TG DMM, anything that can mount to a ram ball (which is damn near everything) can be used with it. I’m currently using their (Taco Garage) phone holder. It’s a cheap plastic holder and I get no noticeable bounce or shaking with it. I personally would get a little nicer holder (and will upgrade in the future) if I were to do it again.

So would you recommend i just get the kit with the ball mount and find a heavier duty mount for the ball?

It's absolutely solid, I've been up to 90mph and have driven some fire roads (nothing crazy though) with no issues.

For the base to move your radio bezel would have to fall out.
The mount ball, arm, and head are all RAM mount system parts. People use the RAM mounts for attaching GoPros and taking them on some pretty crazy driving conditions. The RAM system, I think, is one of the best out there, way more solid and durable than any other mount I've ever used.
Plus you can buy different arms and heads from RAM to suit your needs.

Yes, get a couple balls, then pick whatever mount you like most. (I mean their mount they sell isn’t bad, but you can get higher quality.) the arms they sell also aren’t actual ram pieces. The actual ram arms are nicer.

I just bought the DSM and short socket arm from Taco Garage, and I bought a Quad Lock 1" ball mount for the phone holder.
I already had a Quad Lock case for my phone that I use for biking.

I made this for using in the winter when I travel a lot visiting my folks who snow bird on Lake Marion. Took it off as soon as they went north for the summer.

I threaded the hole for the allen bolt. Took the bolt out and screwed it down from the top for summer.
