No, because they don't want the Tacoma and tundra competing with each other for sales.

Diesels’ prospects in North America don’t look too good. At least in the half-ton segment.

GM is still offering Duramax on Colorado/Canyon. Ram got slapped hefty fines for cheating EcoDiesel emissions. Jeep has been saying it is bringing an EcoDiesel for the past two years; but it keeps getting pushed back. Ford is going with EcoBoost instead. Nissan...well...it is Nissan.

Toyota offers a Diesel Hilux in Mexico at the moment, but I don’t see it bringing it to US or Canada.

Man if they made a new Tacoma the size of gen 1 with a turbo-4 I’d be all over that. Something small that you can really have fun with. Just a basic work truck that’s not a status symbol.

The Tundra doesn't tow well either, had 16' and it couldn't tow our 7300pd dry weight trailer for crap in the mountains and it felt like it was strained just to be hooked up. Added Air bags to comensate and still just wasn't good tow vehicle.

My sentiments exactly.. Tundra type loads require a Tundra.

The Tundra tows well. Not sure what you were hooked upto.

Have towed a enclosed car hauler with camaro through the mountains multiple times. 30ft enclosed trailer through the Rockies multiple times with 4 snowmobiles and 4 adults plus gear in the truck. Most guys in the truck couldn’t believe it would hold 110-120km/hr through the mountain passes as all of them have diesels. The problem with the Tundra pulling is the gas mileage. Beyond that it has no issue.

My thoughts exactly don’t get a midsized truck, if you have to tow a full sized truck load

8500pds loaded in the CO rockies, could hold 50-55MPH over passes only and couldn't pass anything when needed. Yes 5-7MPG and it sounded like it was going to blow up the entire time, I wouldn't call that issues.

Not sure there are too many people with true full size truck requirements cross shopping in the midsized market.

But there are engine possibilities for the Taco though. A detuned TT 2GR isn't out of the realm of possibility. It already exists in the Toyota family and is being modified for truck duty. And there's also a 2.0 turbo 4 in the family that puts out great torque numbers. It wouldn't be impossible for Toyota to adapt that engine as either the base engine or an option.

They can't just sit on their ass anymore. The midsize market is awake again.

Our Tundra pulls the 36ft 8900lb camper and 4 adults with no issue. 10,500lb tow rating for 2010 double cab. About 3500k RPM's on the pennsylvania hills, but it doesn't struggle. P3 brake controller, weight-distribution hitch, and air bags at 60lbs air. Couldn't ask for a better truck for towing.

The answer is probably not/hopefully not.
They don’t build muscle trucks. OP bought the wrong truck.

I’m super stoked Toyota ignores the fuck out of this dipshit demographic. Thank you Toyota.

Then why complain about the Tacoma? You know it’s not designed to adequately tow comfortably anything over 5k. A full size should have been your first option for the weight.

That's my whole point. People complain about the Tacoma, then apparently the Tundra is not enough. For the weekend warrior towing guy, the Tundra is a great option. My Tacoma is perfect for what I use it for, and our Tundra is perfect for what it's used for as well. Toyota hit both markets well on the mark. I don't understand the complaints either.

I don't think we will see any different powertrain until the true 4th gen, whenever that comes out. Based on trends, good odds it will have a single or twin-turbo, 3.5l or smaller displacement.

Also, I do believe Toyota is still listening to what customers want - they NEED their reputation to be shining bright in such a competitive market. They must read or hear about the many gripes regarding this powertrain, and will likely have a solution for most of them in the next installment.

Hell, if I worked for Toyota, I'd sure as hell have TacomaWorld bookmarked!!
